Final Reflection

I really enjoyed the soft slab pottery assignment. I had the most fun making those, and I think the result was my favorite. I love how smooth the surface is on all the forms that I created, and I love my choice to add a signature design to each form. I would consider the soft slabs to be the easiest way to make a pot too, which I think is why I favor the technique more than the others. I like it when things are direct and simple, with room to add flare or design. I love creating functional things, and that are decorative too. After taking this class for the first semester, I realized how much creative freedom you have with creating ceramics. I didn't have a lot of previous exposure to pottery or ceramics, so I felt that I had a pretty direct vision of how pottery generally looks. I've also come to appreciate the process of making pottery as well, it can be a super time-consuming form of art, and the patience to work with the drying clay and dealing with cracking or toughness of the clay deserves to be recognized more. Also, I noticed myself looking at the pottery in thrift stores or out in public more often. I honestly have no recommendations for this class, personally had a great time taking the class, I never felt rushed or pressured to finish something. I felt that we were always given enough time. I think the only thing that I would have wanted, was a shorter demonstration of what we were expected to do, I felt that I already knew what to do, and watching the demo took time away from working. I think the demos can be super helpful, but I think they could be shortened.
