Struck By Lighting
Graphite and watercolor
9" x12"
The main idea that guided me to complete this project was the fact of how much the splatter of paint looked like a dodo bird. I wanted to make the dodo bird doing something that would've never happened, dodo birds were never able to fly so the fact of it flying over a city and happening to get struck by lightning was such a crazy occurrence that I wanted to make the picture even crazier, by making the clouds purple, and putting a large creature on one of the city buildings below.
I sketched the original drawing in a number 2 graphite pencil. I then traced the lines of the pencil with ink, and I colored over the ink lines with a watercolor paint set.
When creating my piece, I started with a dodo bird that looked kind of like a chicken. I wanted this piece to be creative and express what I had been thinking. I started drawing the clouds above to shove the dodo bird flying high, I instantly thought about the bird getting struck by lightning so I added the lightning bolt. I then thought about adding a city underneath the bird and thought it would be funny to add it to my work.
