Hand Narrative Design

A Sticky Sort of Feeling

Acrylic Paint

?

This project was to compose a piece including two proportionate hands as well as zentangle designs. My idea was to draw the hands as if they were your own and you were looking at them. I tried to make the hands similar in size to my hands in real life to make them as proportional as I could. I decided to bring a feeling into my piece, so I added a slime-like design to the hands and the background.

I used pencil to sketch out the design and draw my hands. I used acrylic paint for the whole piece except for the outlines of the circles and around the finger nails. Since I wanted my project to be on a larger piece of paper, I knew that using paint would be the easiest and would make the result look cleaner and more uniform.

I didn't know how I wanted my hands to be positioned so I had to keep re-drawing the hands until they looked right. When drawing my left hand, I was able to look at my hand and sketch what I saw, but for my right I had to use a reference picture which ended up being difficult and I couldn't get the proportions of my fingers right. After the hands were done, I had to decided what I was going to put in the middle of them. Since I wanted to incorporate a single feeling I drew a sort of goo to connect the hands. For the coloring, I wanted it to have cooler tones and look kind of gross.
