Clown Mask

11" x7" x5.5"

Plaster, magazine

For this project, my main goal was to make a mask, that I could potentially use. I think that masks are such a cool concept and sometimes can be super creepy. I wanted to make the plaster as smooth as possible and try not to crease the magazines so much. I wanted it to look very clean and very simplistic.

For this project, I used plaster cloth, brown paper bags, and magazines. I dipped the strips of plaster into a cup of water and used my fingers to mold the wet plaster around a head that I found in the art room.

This project turned out kind of the complete opposite of what I thought it would look like. My first idea was to create a paper bag face kind of inspired off of a tape art video I saw. I feel like my process when making this was very straightforward after I figured out that I was going to make a clown mask.  I feel like I knew what it would look like in the end and I think it turned out really simple and cool. I think if I were to redo this project I would either go with the original design and do like a modge podge sort of sculpture, or I would have smoothed out the top part of the head more, and added hair so it looks extra creepy.
