Over the Shoulder Bag

For this project, I wanted to make a larger over-the-shoulder bag, kind of like a tote bag. I didn't have a set pattern, so I came up with one that I thought would work(seen in the first picture). I thought if I made two teardrop-shaped pieces and two slight trapezoid-like pieces, and a rectangular piece for the bottom, it would create the shape of the bag I wanted.

My first step after sketching out my measurements and pattern was to cut the fabric. I chose to use the same old sheet I have used for previous projects because I liked the pattern. Once I cut out all my pieces, I lined them up to make sure that they were the same measurements. Then I moved on to the sewing. I set a white thread into my sewing machine and flipped the fabric right side in and sewed the teardrop pieces to the bottom to create the sides and base of my bag. My next step was to sew the front and back of the bag to the sides and the bottom. I lined up the edges and sewed along them until I reached the corners or until my fabric ended. My final sewing step was to connect the handle of the bag. This was super easy because all I had to do was line the edges up and sew about two inches back and forth about 3 times to make sure it stays. Finally, I trimmed all the extra thread and flipped it right side out.

Overall, I am very happy with my product, and the process was not super complicated. One thing I think I would like to add is some details on the front and back. I'm thinking maybe some patchwork detail or some bead detail. I think this will be a very good bag for beach trips.
