This project was a Valentine's Day gift. I wanted to get this person something handmade that was both cute and unique. I thought about many things that I could make, but this stuck out the most. I wanted to write them a letter, and I needed an envelope, so I thought that I would just make one. I remember seeing this a while ago on Pinterest and thinking it was super cute, and what better time to try to create it?
The first thing I did was go to the store to buy the stuff. I already had some of the stuff at my house, so the only thing I needed to buy was the felt. It ended up being only a couple of dollars, so overall, this project was really affordable. My next step was to take a piece of felt and fold it into thirds. You want to make sure that one panel is smaller than the others because that will be the triangle flap part of the envelope. Once it was folded, I traced out a triangle on the smallest panel and cut it out. Then I unfolded the felt, and on the middle panel I wrote out a little "PS: i Love u" and made a stamp and some hearts out of different colored felt. I also stitched some lines in the top left corner to look like an address was written. After I had everything laid out, I stitched it all to the base. Once that was done, I folded the bottom of the bottom pannel to the top of the top pannel and took some embroidery thread and did a blanket stitch along the edge of the envelope. I had never done a blanket stitch before, so I had to learn that, but it was fairly easy. I just searched up a couple of different tutorials on YouTube and figured it out. Once the blanket stitch was complete, I sewed a button where the triangle flap would fold over and cut a little hole where it would meet the button so it could be buttoned shut.
Overall, I am really happy with the outcome of this project. I think it's super cute, and it can be customized for different occasions too, so now I can make some for birthdays or Christmas. The person I gave it to really liked it as well. This project taught me how to do a blanket stitch, which I really like the look of, so I think I may use it more when sewing by hand.
