For this project, we could create anything we wanted, as long as it incorporated the three main techniques: pinch, coil, and slab. At first, I had no idea what to make. I came up with the idea of making picture frames. At first, I didn't expect them to be functional. I wanted to create something like the yellow frame on the purple door in FRIENDS.
First, I rolled out a couple of slabs and cut out three different-sized rectangles. I then rolled some coils and attached them to the rectangles to create walls. When those were drying a little bit, I traced the same three rectangles onto the slabs and cut them out, and then cut a rectangular hole in the middle to create a frame. Then I waited for them to dry out until they were leather hard. Once they were, I attached the decoration using techniques like pinch and coil to the frame. I then attached the frame to the back part to create the whole frame and waited for them to be fired.
Then I picked out the glazes I wanted to use. I didn't really have any idea of what I wanted them to look like, so I just chose glazes I thought would look good. I think the final product came out great. I really like the sandy color the glaze made and the tints of red. I wish I had made the three frames more similar in color, but overall, I think they look great.
