For this project, I wanted to attempt to create a cute summer top. Going into this project, I had no idea how to do so many parts. I knew this project was going to be a struggle, so I wasnt expecting it to be good. The first thing I had to decide was what I wanted it to look like. I thought doing a backless top would be easier because it would be adjustable. I decided to do a V-neck top that was flowy at the bottom, kinda like a babydoll top style. Once I got my fabric, I started cutting.
The first thing I cut out was the triangles for the top part. I made them a little more curved just to cover more area. Then I cut out a strip of fabric as wide as I wanted the shirt to be, which was about 40 cm long and 7 cm high. I sewed both of the triangles to the strip of fabric, overlapping the triangles' inner corners towards the middle of the shirt. I then cut out a piece of fabric in the shape of a trapezoid, where it was smaller at the top than it was at the bottom. Once that was cut out, I sewed the smaller part of the triangle to the strip of fabric, making sure the seams would be on the inside of the shirt. The last step was to cut out four rectangular pieces of fabric that I then sewed in half to create straps for the shoulder and the back of the shirt. I connected one of the straps on each side to the top corners of the shirt by sewing them together, and then to the top corners of the strip in the middle by sewing them together. For the straps in the back, I sewed them to the top of the strip as well and just tied them in the back.
Overall, I don't love how it came out. I think it was a really difficult thing to try to make at this point. I also think that the fabric I used was a bad choice because the fabric is kinda stretchy, so it fits awkwardly. I will definitely try to make it again and use better fabric next time.
