Artist Statement;
The subject of my photo is Meaghan with a couple leaves in front of her. To take this photo, I used the shadows of the tree from the large windows to create the shadows on Meg's face and body. I wanted to add some interest to the photo instead of it just being a plain photo of Meg against the wall so I decided to use the leaves to create an extra piece to the photo. In this photo, there is selective focus, rule of thirds, and informal balance. The leaves on the left side of the photo create a heavier feeling on that side than on the right. The leaves are also not in focus whereas Meg is which creates the selective focus. I chose this photo because to me, this photo reminds me of Skidaway Island in Savannah where there are many palm trees and its often quite sunny so there are usually very crisp, unique shadows. The leaves almost look like banana tree leaves which make me think of tropical plants which brings in the palm trees. If I were to change anything about this photo, I would have either retaken it so the leaf on the right side wasn't there.
