4.5x4.5"Artist Statement;
For this piece, we were all given a small square 1x1” that when put together, would create a full image. The objective was to enlarge the small image into a 4.5x4.5” square by copying the values and placement while enlarging it to fit the larger square.
To make me enlarged version, I used a variety of different pencils, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, and a tortillion to blend. I used this variety of materials because there were many different shades in the small image I was given. HB for the outlining, 2B for light shades, 4B for a darker shade, and 6B for the darkest parts. I then used the tortillion to blend the different shades together.
To start off, I started off by sketching out the general shapes of the image from the small square using an HB pencil to keep it light. Once I had all the shapes sketched out lightly and in the right places, I began to go back in with my 2B, 4B, and 6B pencils to add the different shades and values using 2B for lighter shades and 6B for the darkest shades. Once I finished adding the pencil, I went through and tried to blend the colors using the tortillion but it did not really work.
