Surrealism Collage

Artist Statement:

For this project we were asked to create a collage using bits and pieces of magazines or cropping photos online. For my collage, I chose three photos, a silhouette of a man in front of a sunset, a photo of the ocean, and a hand throwing a paper airplane. I chose these three images because I love sunsets, planes are my favorite form of transportation, and the ocean is my favorite place to go. Once we had the collages, we were told to then draw or paint the image based on what materials we had at home. I was with someone so I used what few paints and brushes I had and painted on their back.

I had a limited selection of colors, I had blue, white, orange, green, and grey. I also only had about two or three brushes, neither of which were very good quality. I started of by painting the sunset and then adding the cloud. I then went in and added the airplane up in the top and the little dude down at the bottom. I then went in with the blue, added the ocean, and once it was dry, went in with white and grey to give it the texture and detail.

Personally, I thought this project was super fun and I know that if I had had more colors and brushes that this project would have turned out even better. I'm very proud of the outcome though because even though it doesn't look the EXACT same, it still looks very similar and it only took about 2.5 hours.
