Artist Statement;
For this project, we spent about two weeks learning about different art history movements and artists within the movements. After we learned and took notes about the different movements and artists, we were given a specific movement to study as well as an artist from that movement. For my project, I was assigned the Pop Art movement and Andy Warhol as my artist. Once we did some deeper research about the movement and artist, we chose another artist or movement to create an inspired project by mixing two movements together. The second movement I chose was pointillism. For for project, I originally based my project off the "everyday object" concept of pop art which is where I got the lightswitch from. From there, I thought that I could have a light bulb that was turned on because of the lightswitch and then I realized I wanted to have a subject under the lightswitch and because I love drawing parts of the face I drew the top of a girls head with a messy bun. I wanted to have it look like the light bulb was on so I made the far side darker to make it look like it was only lighting up part of the image. To use my other movement, pointillism, I made my project out of tiny dots.
For this project, I used a normal sized piece of bristol which I then cut down to 11"x8" and then added a half inch border. I started off by sketching out the whole image very lightly in pencil and then began to go in with a 005 MICRON pen for everything except the far right side of the page. For the very right side I tried to use ink to made the solid black but it turned out to be a different shade of black so I went back to the MICRON pens and used a 08 for all the dots fading from the solid black into the open space.
I had a lot of fun with this project and although it was difficult for me to think of an idea originally, once I thought of one part, I began to think of many different ideas I wanted to add to it. I almost wish that I hadn't added the solid black on the side and only used dots but I think that it still looks okay.
