Artist statement:

The main idea that guided me through this artwork was to create a realistic piece of my dog, Calder. I had to draw and include the darks and make them blend into the lights of my drawing that I made. I chose to draw my dog Calder because I liked how he blended in with being the only dark object in a room that is very bright. I also liked how the angle that he was positioned lying down which was easier to recreate on paper.

I used a variety of materials to create Calder with, but the main materials I used are Graphite for the outline, sharpie for the ears and charcoal for shading in.

I started by using a light graphite pencil 2H for the outline of the whole image. Next I used the sharpie pen for the outline of the ears. Then I had to use charcoal to color in the dog in and to show its hair. I then had to erase some parts of the dog to show the light parts, mainly on the beard. Lastly I had to shade in the designs on the pillow and blend the couch in with Calder. Even though I struggled and was a bit behind on the art I was very pleased with the way it came out looking and I felt relieved as a result of that.
