For this project we were tasked with coming up with a word that best sums up our semester and making a paper project out of it. The word that I picked was Hectic. I thought that would be a good word to sum up my semester because a lot went on during it like the adjustment to more advanced work that I had to do in some of my classes and being out sick with Pneumonia for pretty much the whole month of November only to fall three weeks behind on all my classes. I sort of wanted to create to a scenario where it really looked hectic, so I decided to metaphorically make a bridge that appears to be falling down due to the weight of the words that I taped on: Time, work, sick, sports and sleep. Sort of what I had to constantly deal with the first semester.
The materials I used: Large paper sheets, scissors and tape.
I first started out by cutting long strands of paper and making sure that they were the same length. This was difficult because I only allowed to use paper and I was not allowed to use pencil to trace a line that I could cut which made this quite difficult to do. Finally after I was able to get the strands of paper for the bridges arches I twisted them together to really make them look as if they were actually arches and then I taped them together on each side of the bridge and made rumples in the paper so I could play with structure and really bring out the meaning in my word and then I finally taped the letters to my bridge and I was finished.
