Title: WATER-water-melon
The independently creative project was where we had to use what we learned from this past year of foundations of art and then chose a project that we really felt passionate about. When I first thought of this project I thought of how well I did with clay and knew that I could make anything I wanted out of it. I decided to do a bowl made out of clay, considering I could incorporate a lot of fancy work into it, and plus I eat a lot of my food out of a bowl. I also tend to have a love for food, especially fruit so I wanted this bowl to really represent my love for fruit and summer. This was really fun to work on and I could never be proud of the way it turned out.
The materials that I used to create this project were: Clay, carving tools, acrylic paint for adding the red paint, black paint, green paint, and blue paint. I also had to use 4 coats of glaze to make the piece shine.
The processes were simple: I first had to brainstorm ideas the following week then once I had my idea of what I wanted my bowl to be like. I started sculpting, but it took a few tries at first, the first time it broke when I dropped it on the ground, and then the next time I accidentally broke it with my hands. But the third try went well, I had to do a lot of pinching the make the circles around the bowl blend in with each other so that was a pain. I managed to get this done during my two study halls for period 8/9 maroon. On the first day, I managed to get the outline of the bowl done. The second day I managed to paint and add the details. Then I had a callback for Friday and that's when I glazed it. All in all, I am really proud of the work and the effort that I incorporated into this design and I don't see any other way that I would do it better.
