Title: Chris Chambers the Chameleon.

For this assignment, we were tasked with rolling out a slab of clay and then carving a sgraffito design onto the surface.

I rolled out the slab with a rolling pin and then I used a knife to cut out the rectangle. Next, I cut out the drawing of the chameleon and traced it around the sgraffito tile and then added the details once I was done tracing it. I picked a chameleon because I love the interesting patterns that it has on it and the fact that it can blend in with its environment by changing color I find to be wonderful. As someone who loves nature, I was inspired by the overall aspects and characteristics that some animals have to offer and in this case, it was the chameleon.

If I were to improve this piece I would probably start by being more careful with it at the start and making sure that it is wrapped up so it can dry better as well as not develop many cracks. I would also probably be more careful with it next time and make sure to handle it with care so it does not break like it did on one of the corners. Detail wise I would add more details to the branch to make the environment look more diverse and interesting, but overall I was quite satisfied with how my first ceramics project turned out to be.
