Title: The festive cylinder.

For this project, we had to learn coil and carving techniques, and then we had to make a coiled cylinder out of that.  Once we knew the technique for that, we then had to create our own original pot and make it as realistic as we could, but also in the process we had to come up with some really good carving designs using our imagination that would really make the cylinder look pretty.

The materials that I used for my cylinder include: needle tools, smooth surfaces, brushes & glaze for the colors.

I first started creating this piece by rolling out a bunch of handmade coils on the table. We had to also make sure that they were the correct thickness & length each time so that when we stacked our coils one would not be bigger or thicker than the others. The problem with that at first was when I would roll them out, I would get some clay bits and clay dust from the table on my coils from the table. Once I had at least three coils rolled out and stacked on each other, I then had to use a smoothing tool and smooth out the coils so that they would blend in with each other then I would do the process over again. Finally, after everything was blended in I had to go over the pot and make sure that there were no cracks around it all.

I struggled with this project at first because when I would stack my coils they would sometimes get out of line with each other and as a result, my pot became a little too big and started to look like a muffin. I realized that I did not intend to have it that way so I instead decided to make it smaller by cutting out a small area of it, so I could then fuse the sides together and make it smaller. I was very satisfied with how that went and I am happy with the size of it now.
