Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that there are only three months left in the school year. This is the stretch of the semester where there is more time between breaks. It is important that students maintain their focus and do not let their grades slide. Lately we have been seeing students less prepared for tests and quizzes and waiting until the last minute to study and complete assignments. As a result, we are seeing some students resort to cheating. We take academic integrity very seriously and expect all our students to be honest, respectful, and responsible in their academic work.
Some violations of academic integrity include copying someone else's work and submitting it as one's own, copying someone else’s answers on a test or quiz, using material or a device dishonestly such as with AI, and providing answers to other students helping them cheat on homework, tests, or quizzes. Violations of academic integrity may result in students receiving a zero for the assignment, test, or quiz impacting the student’s overall grade. Students may also receive detention and/or Saturday school. Please help impress upon your students at home the importance of academic integrity in their learning and future success in high school, college, and beyond.
Stakeholder interviews for the four school president candidate finalists have been taking place this week and will continue into next. Students, parents, faculty, staff, students, and alumni have been able to meet the candidates, ask questions, and provide feedback.
Our winter sports teams are wrapping up their regular seasons and beginning to prepare for District tournaments and state competition. Let’s cheer on our teams and individuals in their pursuit of state championships beginning with swimming, diving, and wrestling this weekend. Go Horsemen!
Yours in Christ,
Martin C. Sandoval, Principal
The President Search candidates will be on campus during the final two weeks of February. As a result, adjusted schedules will be in effect on February 17, 19, 23, and 26.
Please note that February 24th was designated on the school calendar as meeting schedule day. However, because we will have meeting schedule days on the 23rd and 26th the meeting schedule day for February 24th has been cancelled.
On all meeting schedule days, the school day will conclude at 2:55 p.m. Families must ensure appropriate pickup arrangements are made. These adjustments apply only to the dates specified.
Further communication regarding the President Search process will be shared at a later date through official school channels, including Remind, the school website, and social media.

Great job girls! We are proud of you! They have worked so hard to get here and are a great example of what hard work brings you, it is not an accident that they have made it this far! Mataya and Aubrey exemplify a winning hard work culture. They are our Swim and Dive Captains and will be in the Captains parade so come cheer them on!
Swim
Our school has offered to make an investment in the swim program by funding off season practice on a year-round basis and as you all have seen it takes a huge investment in practice time to be competitive. SMHS practices will be in the mornings on Tuesdays and Thursdays (6:07-7:07) to allow students to do other activities. We're really hoping students take advantage of the opportunity. The worst thing that can happen is you get fitter and faster!

The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame has announced the 95 state recipients of the 2025–26 NFF National High School Academic Excellence Awards, presented by the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation. The annual program recognizes the nation’s top-performing high school football programs for their commitment to excellence in the classroom, honoring one team from each level of play in every state. The initiative aims to promote and reinforce the importance of academic achievement within high school football programs nationwide. Representing New Mexico among this year’s honorees are St. Michael’s High School and Texico High School, recognizing the outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments of their football programs.
To be eligible for the Academic Excellence Awards, teams must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate exceptional academic performance and application, and complete a successful football season.
“The National Football Foundation’s Academic Excellence Awards shine a well-deserved spotlight on what high school football is truly about—developing young people who excel both on the field and in the classroom,” said New Mexico High School Coaches Association Executive Director Angel Castillo. “These recognitions reflect the commitment of our student-athletes, coaches, schools, and communities to academic achievement and character. New Mexico is proud of these programs and grateful for the NFF’s continued emphasis on education as a cornerstone of the game.
”Each state’s high school coaches association selects their respective state’s winners from a pool of nominees submitted by each school’s head coaches.

Faith in the Presence of God
The Lasallian school nurtures belief in the living presence of God in our world. Faith in the presence of God calls all students into a deeper awareness of their saving relationship with a caring and loving God and to see the world through the “eyes of faith”. At St. Mike’s, this core principle is reflected each day through this Lasallian expression of faith: “Let us remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.”
Live Jesus in our Hearts. . .
