SMHS Weekly Newsletter

January 31, 2025
Dear Parents,
This week we celebrated National Catholic Schools Week with students representing our school at the All Schools Mass at St. Joseph’s on the Rio Grande Catholic Church in Albuquerque on Wednesday. This week reminds us of the important work that we do as a Lasallian Catholic School, of our five Lasallian Core Principles, and of the importance of the presence of God in our lives.
Congratulations to our 300 first semester honor roll students! We have 51 Principal’s Honor Roll students with straight A’s, 116 A Honor Roll students with a 3.6 or above and no C’s or below, and 133 B Honor Roll Students with a 3.0 or above and no D’s or below. Our students are working hard and demonstrating this hard work through their academic success. For students who might be struggling academically, we offer a variety of supports and resources to help them get back on track. Please consult with our academic counselor, Alex Gallegos, to work on an academic plan for student success if your child needs academic support. Let’s make this second semester even better than the first!
We are already seeing a little increase in senior absences and tardies. We are also seeing a little decline in senior grades to this point in the semester. Our seniors need to stay focused as graduation nears and finish strong. Senioritis is real, and we want to prevent our seniors from falling victim to it. That being said, we have an outstanding group of seniors who will be leaving a tremendous legacy here at St. Michael’s.
Our students are very successful because of your efforts at home. Our school would not be the great place it is without your support. Go Horsemen!
Yours in Christ,
Martin C. Sandoval, Principal

Let us remember . . .
Next week, our junior boys will be off to participate in this year's Kairos retreat. Kairos is a Greek word meaning "God's Time." It is an opportunity to explore your relationship with God and, at the same time, your relationship with yourself.
Please remember to take a moment next week to pray for our junior boys and their senior leaders. The long journey to befriending God and to loving our true selves invariably benefits from the love, prayers, and support of those around us.
Live Jesus in our hearts . . .

Capital Improvement
Recent school updates are almost complete with the replacement of the 50-year old gates with modern metal doors. The new doors provides additional security throughout the school day. The project was completed using a small grant provided by the Catholic Foundation and current capital improvement funds.
