Dear Parents,
You should have received an email today regarding a parent survey from the Springtide Research Institute. The purpose of this survey is to develop a comprehensive understanding of student belonging/thriving in our school. Through this survey, your feedback will help us improve in ensuring that all our students feel a sense of belonging and are thriving at St. Michael’s High School. The students had the opportunity to complete the student survey on October 25.
Please complete the parent survey prior to November 30. Your voice is very important and we appreciate your participation.
Over the coming weeks, our registrar, Ms. Erickson, will be conducting an audit of state required student immunizations. You may be receiving an email from her indicating your student needs one or more vaccinations. Please be sure to take care of these with your provider within 30 days of that communication and provide updated documentation to Ms. Erickson. According to state guidelines, students whose vaccinations are not current may be disenrolled. Any parent/guardian requesting an exemption from any/all vaccinations must officially request that exemption from the New Mexico Department of Health. Once approved, the official, notarized certificate of exemption must be on file with the school.
This weekend is daylight saving. As the days grow shorter and the weather becomes colder, we have a greater concern about students not involved in after school activities remaining on campus well after the school day. There is no supervision in the school lobby after 4:30 p.m. We ask that students who do not have after school activities be picked up as soon after school as possible, and for sure by 4:30 p.m. We appreciate your cooperation.
In addition, we have concerns with students who are left at the school after athletic
events. To ensure student safety and maintain the security of the premises, please be aware that gates and buildings will be closed within thirty minutes after the conclusion of the final game of the day. Please ensure that students are picked up within that half hour.
On Wednesday, November 13 we will be continuing to practice our safety protocols with our first shelter in place drill. Even though it is a drill, we ask that all our students take the drill seriously and act as if it is a real occurrence. It is important that our students practice what to do in the event of a real situation to ensure student safety.
Thank you for the continuous support of our school, our students, and the entire St. Michael’s community. Go Horsemen!
Yours in Christ,
Martin C. Sandoval, Principal
Reminder we are on a half day schedule Tuesday November 5th for Election Day! The school will be closed starting at 1:00pm. Please make arrangements to pick up your students at 12:30. No lunch service will be provided!
As the weather is changing, please make sure your students are in appropriate St. Mike's outerwear - seniors may wear college sweatshirts and hoodies Monday - Friday, and underclassmen may wear them on Fridays. Plain colored hoodies and jackets are not approved outerwear. Please visit the spirit shop if you need to purchase any clothing items.
Parents, please remind your students to check the lost and found if they are missing anything - we have many unclaimed items that will be donated next week. The table is out front in the lobby. Please remind your students to secure their belongings in their lockers and PE lockers.
Wow! How time flies! We have only 6 weeks left in the Semester (this includes the week of finals)! Continue to check OnBoard weekly and please reach out to teachers with any questions or concerns.
Springtide Research Institute is conducting a survey as a third party, with the Lasallian
District of San Francisco New Orleans, to understand more about your student(s)’
experiences at their school––specifically focused on their belonging and thriving. This survey will follow up on our findings from the past two years.
This survey will ask about your perceptions of student belonging and thriving at the school, and your responses will provide a more holistic view of the student experience.
Findings from this survey will accompany our findings from a similar student survey.
As a vital participant in this study, we need to hear from you! This survey should take you about 6 minutes to complete. All responses are confidential.

On Friday, we celebrated All Saints' Day with a school-wide mass in the Tipton Auditorium. All Saints' Day is an ancient Christian holy day, going back to the late Roman Empire. Originally, it commemorated those saints who had been martyred for their faith. Today, the Church has broadened its significance to commemorating all saints in heaven - all those "contemplating, in full light, God himself ... truly as he is." (Catechism of the Catholic Church 954).
According to Saint John Paul II, "the saints have always been the source and origin of renewal in the most difficult moments in the Church's history." This weekend, let each of us take a moment to pray for those future saints -- now ordinary people here on earth -- to be that "source and origin of renewal" in the Church that we need today as much as ever.
