Dear Parents,
On Wednesday we had a St.Valentine prayer service to remind us of the importance of love in our lives and in our faith, and how love is unconditional, selfless, and compassionate. This week we have been collecting various toiletries to donate to the Esperanza Domestic Violence Shelter. I would like to thank our students and our community for these generous donations and showing love for those in need. This is a demonstration of our core principle: Concern for the Poor and Social Justice.
Teachers and administrators are beginning to reach out to parents of students who currently have a grade of D or F at this point in the semester. Missed assignments and apathy are the main causes for these low grades. It is imperative that students complete all their assignments even if they are absent. Students must meet deadlines and plan ahead if they have athletics or other activities. Students should be referring to their teachers’ Google Classrooms to find out what they missed. Please refer to OnBoard to check your child’s attendance and current grades. Also, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers if you have any questions or concerns about their grades.
With registration for next school year right around the corner, I encourage families to ensure that they are not delinquent in tuition payments. Per the enrollment contract, any family account that is in delinquent status may not be allowed to register current and/or new students for subsequent years until the delinquency has been resolved and /or until an alternate payment plan has been requested and approved. Delinquency in payment will result in semester grades not being released or accessible, the inability to take final exams, inability to participate in athletics and/or activities, and official/unofficial transcripts or other school records not being released as long as there is an outstanding balance. This especially affects current seniors with three months left of the school year. Not being able to take their final exams will prevent seniors from completing their senior year thus not having a complete transcript noting the student has graduated. This would negatively impact the college application process as well as impact any scholarships the senior may have received. All outstanding balances of seniors must be paid in full prior to senior final exams. If you are unsure of your tuition balance or have any questions about your tuition payment status, please contact Shane Pulsifer in our business office at spulsifer@smhs.me.
Many of our students are actively involved in athletics, school activities, community service projects, and their church, on top of keeping up with their academics. We have such amazing students who do so much for their school and their community. This is another testament as to what makes St. Michael’s such a great school. Your support of our students in these endeavors is greatly appreciated. Go Horsemen! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Yours in Christ,
Martin C. Sandoval, Principal

Mock Trial competed in another battle of wits this week down at the courthouse. They faced off with Santa Fe Prep! The District Competition is coming up on February 21st, so wish our team luck as they prepare for this exciting experience!
The Student Council and WAVE clubs teamed up again to collect donations for the Esperanza DV Shelter in Santa Fe. They collected chapstick, lotion, soap, body wash, and other hygiene products. Thanks to our generous community, students were able to show their great love and support through many many donations.
The Campus Ministry planned and put on a beautiful Prayer Service this past Wednesday in honor of the St. Valentine Holiday. The school heard reflections on who St. Valentine and St. Paul the Apostle were and why their lives are such great influences in the Catholic Faith. It is because their lives show how powerful and transformative LOVE can be in one's life, especially the Love of God. Love is meant to be unconditional, patient, selfless, and sacrificial just as Jesus showed us. The students' were challenged to wear a letter to someone they love over the break, with the hopes that Love can spread through the community from person to person as it should.
Sports Medicine Club sold over 140 candy grams that were delivered throughout the school yesterday. Students received a nice note, some candy, and a beautiful flower.

Let us remember . . .
This week, the student body participated in our St. Valentine’s Day prayer service. The theme, of course, was love. St. Augustine once said that “if you want to savor something of God, know that God is love; the same love by which we love one another.” That’s more profound than it seems at first blush. When we show Christian love for one another, that love is God, because God is love. Thus, by doing acts of Christian love, by creating love, we are, in a sense, conjuring up God. That’s quite a power we have - one that too often goes underused.
This Valentine’s Day weekend, celebrate love with flowers, chocolates, maybe even a nice dinner. But make sure also to find time to surprise someone with true Christian love. When you do, pause to realize that you are literally conjuring up God in our midst.
Live Jesus in our hearts . . .
