November 8th
Dear Parents,
St. John Baptist De La Salle held “community” up as a “precious gem,” and believed that it should be preserved at all cost. And one thing that the Brothers have shared with us in their ministry is their own community, life, and spirit. This is a large part of the Lasallian mission and is at the heart of what it truly means to accept, respect, and care for one another.
These last few days have been difficult on our St. Michael’s family. The results of the presidential election created conflict and separation within our own blue and white walls. I humbly admit that this has broken my heart.
Our community at St. Michael’s High School, existing since 1859, has been strong in community, life, and spirit. I challenge all of us to continue to accept, respect, and care for one another for the rest of this school year and for many years to come. We must, as a family and as a community forge together, despite our political opinions.
The two Lasallian Core Principles that coincide; where one cannot exist without the other, are Inclusive Community and Respect for All Persons:
The Lasallian school is a united community where diversity is respected, where no one is left out, and where everyone finds a place. Individuals within the school community recognize and accept another’s strengths and limitations. This core principle is expressed through the Lasallian idea: “The Lasallian Family.” (© Christian Brothers University)
A few reminders:
We will continue to follow SFPS for delays and closures due to inclement weather. However, there may be times when we make a determination different from SFPS. Either scenario, we will follow up with a Remind to all families.
There is no supervision in the school lobby after 4:30 p.m. We ask that students who do not have after school activities be picked up as soon after school as possible, and for sure by 4:30 p.m.
We have concerns with students who are left at the school after athletic events. To ensure student safety and maintain the security of the premises, please be aware that gates and buildings will be closed within thirty minutes after the conclusion of the final game of the day. Please ensure that students are picked up within that half hour.
On Wednesday, November 13 we will be continuing to practice our safety protocols with our first shelter in place drill. Even though it is a drill, we ask that all our students take the drill seriously and act as if it is a real occurrence. It is important that our students practice what to do in the event of a real situation to ensure student safety.
Please don’t forget to complete the Parent Survey by November 30th

Springtide Research Institute is conducting a survey as a third party, with the Lasallian District of San Francisco New Orleans, to understand more about your student(s)’ experiences at their school––specifically focused on their belonging and thriving. This survey will follow up on our findings from the past two years.
This survey will ask about your perceptions of student belonging and thriving at the school, and your responses will provide a more holistic view of the student experience.
Findings from this survey will accompany our findings from a similar student survey. As a vital participant in this study, we need to hear from you! This survey should take you about 6 minutes to complete. All responses are confidential.
Please click this link to take the survey: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/8008279/SFNO-2024-Belonging-Parents-Saint-Michaels-HS
