Dear Parents,
As we celebrate St. Valentine’s Day tomorrow, we are reminded of the importance of love in our lives and in our faith, and how love is unconditional, selfless, and compassionate. This week we continued to collect various articles of warmth to donate to La Familia Health Care for the Homeless Center. I would like to thank our students and our community again for these generous donations and showing love for those in need.
Teachers and administrators have been reaching out to parents of students who currently have a grade of D or F at this point in the semester. Missed assignments and apathy are the main causes for these low grades. It is imperative that students complete all their assignments even if they are absent. Students must meet deadlines and plan ahead if they have athletics or other activities. Students should be referring to their teachers’ Google Classrooms to find out what they missed. Please refer to OnBoard to check your child’s attendance and current grades. Also, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers if you have any questions or concerns about their grades.
With registration for next school year right around the corner, I encourage families to ensure that they are not delinquent in tuition payments. Per the enrollment contract, any family account that is in delinquent status may not be allowed to register current and/or new students for subsequent years until the delinquency has been resolved and /or until an alternate payment plan has been requested and approved. Delinquency in payment will result in semester grades not being released or accessible, the inability to take final exams, inability to participate in athletics and/or activities, and official/unofficial transcripts or other school records not being released as long as there is an outstanding balance. This especially affects current seniors with three months left of the school year. Not being able to take their final exams will prevent seniors from completing their senior year thus not having a complete transcript noting the student has graduated. This would negatively impact the college application process as well as impact any scholarships the senior may have received. All outstanding balances of seniors must be paid in full prior to senior final exams. If you are unsure of your tuition balance or have any questions about your tuition payment status, please contact Danna West in our business office at dwest@smhs.me.
Many of our students are actively involved in athletics, school activities, community service projects, and their church, on top of keeping up with their academics. We have such amazing students who do so much for their school and their community. This is another testament as to what makes St. Michael’s such a great school. Your support of our students in these endeavors is greatly appreciated. Go Horsemen! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Yours in Christ,
Martin C. Sandoval, Principal

The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame has announced the 95 state recipients of the 2025–26 NFF National High School Academic Excellence Awards, presented by the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation. The annual program recognizes the nation’s top-performing high school football programs for their commitment to excellence in the classroom, honoring one team from each level of play in every state. The initiative aims to promote and reinforce the importance of academic achievement within high school football programs nationwide. Representing New Mexico among this year’s honorees are St. Michael’s High School and Texico High School, recognizing the outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments of their football programs.
To be eligible for the Academic Excellence Awards, teams must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate exceptional academic performance and application, and complete a successful football season.
“The National Football Foundation’s Academic Excellence Awards shine a well-deserved spotlight on what high school football is truly about—developing young people who excel both on the field and in the classroom,” said New Mexico High School Coaches Association Executive Director Angel Castillo. “These recognitions reflect the commitment of our student-athletes, coaches, schools, and communities to academic achievement and character. New Mexico is proud of these programs and grateful for the NFF’s continued emphasis on education as a cornerstone of the game.
”Each state’s high school coaches association selects their respective state’s winners from a pool of nominees submitted by each school’s head coaches.

Inclusive Community
The Lasallian school is a united community where diversity is respected, where no one is left out, and where everyone finds a place. Individuals within the school community recognize and accept another's strengths and limitations. At St. Michael's, this core principle is reflected each day through this Lasallian ideal: "The Horsemen Family."
