Background Characters

The following NPCs from "The Secrets of Freeport" campaign are derived from the backgrounds of each PC. NPCs that multiple PCs know are marked with (*).

Amanishaya Andreas: Background Characters

Andamar Blood-Eye: Andamar is a male human (14th level) cleric of Zo-Kalar residing in Ooth-Nargai. He is an albino, and many consider his appearance to be a sign of favor from his ivory-skinned god. Shaya met Andamar when her former companion Ivellios was slain and required resurrection, a spell beyond all priests she could find in Freeport.

The Captain's Council: Shaya met Councilors Dirwin Arnig and Sister Gwendolyn at the Grand Lighthouse Ball (see Madness in Freeport and F:CoA, pp. 24-27).

Captain Lydon*: See "Holiday in the Sun" (Focus on Freeport #5), Madness in Freeport, and F:CoA, p. 28. Shaya and her first party saved Lydon's life during Swagfest, so he is quite fond of them (though they aren't especially enamored of him, and Thaddeus is now a rival for the Council).

The Dusk Walker's Crew: Shaya helped Marora rescue the Dusk Walker's crew (see "Soldshort's Folly"). She received her initial wizard training with Olodak Tumblebelly.

Falthar*: See Tales of Freeport, pp. 78-80. Shaya's first party had some items identified by Falthar, and the Dusk Walker's crew have bought scrolls from him.

Ivellios: This elf sorcerer was a member of Shaya's first Freeport party. She has not seen him since shortly after his reincarnation as a serpent person.

Merrilindon: This old human cleric is high priest of Tamash in Celephais, where Amanishaya was trained in that god's service. [Shaya has not met or heard of any other Tamash priests in Freeport. Therefore, Merrilindon is the closest "superior" she knows.]

Ningel's Concoctions*: Shaya and her first party purchased alchemical supplies and potions from Seebo Ningel.

The Temple of Nasht*: Due to her deeds during the Freeport Trilogy, Shaya is on good terms with Thuron/K'Stallo and Egil, as well as several of the acolytes and librarians. She has been granted a high level of access to the stacks.

Thaddeus: This human rogue was a member of Shaya's first Freeport party. Following Madness in Freeport, he has decided to make a bid for a Captains' Council seat, so Shaya has not seen him often since.

Thulmir Quent*: See Denizens of Freeport, p. 87. Quent is an "adventure broker" who helped put Shaya in touch with the other PCs.

Vandar the Weaponsmith: Vandar is a dwarf cleric serving the Great One pantheon, rather than a single god [domains: Magic, War]. He deals in masterwork and magical weapons, and will gladly identify a magic weapon then deduct the spell's cost from what he pays for it (the standard 50% rate). [Shaya has not dealt with him since acquiring identify herself.]

Bart Goodfellow: Background Characters

The Esmeralda's Star: Bart was press-ganged into this (mostly human) pirate crew about 5 years ago, but was eventually accepted as a regular crewman. In early FY 203, the Star was hijacked by other pirates, its first mate (Bailey) and captain slain, while Bart was ashore in Freeport.

The Goodfellow Family: Bart is the 7th child of Patrick and Jessica Goodfellow, fisherfolk in [Rinar?]. Their 3rd child is Ansen, who tormented his little brother Bart as a child.

Thulmir Quent*: See Denizens of Freeport, p. 87. Quent is an "adventure broker" who helped put Bart in touch with the other PCs.

Bryn Cooper: Background Characters

Captain Lydon*: See "Holiday in the Sun" (Focus on Freeport #5), Madness in Freeport, and F:CoA, p. 28. Bryn once won a sizable amount of money gambling with Lydon, which impressed him mightily. (She wisely lost much of it again, in order to not offend the other players in the game.)

Falthar*: See Tales of Freeport, pp. 78-80. Gertz introduced Bryn to Falthar, so that she could get some specialized instruction in divination.

Nicholas: "Nicholas" is a half-elf who was born in Amarante (the elven homeland), but he grew sick of being treated as "half-human", so left home (January FY 203), adopted a human name, and tries to disguise his elven features. He is in his late 20s, but usually looks like a human in his early 20s. He is now a student of the arts at FI, and a regular at the Scroll, where he met Bryn 4 months ago (March FY 203). They have been involved romantically since then. Bryn knows Nicholas's true race, but doesn’t think he knows about her rogue skills yet.

Ningel's Concoctions*: Bryn is a regular customer at this alchemist's shop.

The Pawn's Shop: Bryn frequents this secondhand store, and is aware that Horne is a fence. In fact, she has used that service herself, in addition to buying magic items on the cheap.

Prof. Mandarus Whitmire: See F:CoA, p. 50. Dean Whitmire was introduced to Bryn when she received a scholarship to FI, but has had little contact with her since (he is not a wizard, and most of her studies involve magic).

Prof. Wilmina Gertz: See F:CoA, p. 51. While running messages as a child, Bryn fell in love with the Scroll--it was safe, welcoming, and full of intriguing students of magic. Gertz discovered Bryn's potential when she caught the girl reading a spellbook--and understanding some of it--so recruited Bryn for her wizard's school.

The Temple of Nasht*: Bryn is acquainted with Stipple Ningel, a relative of Seebo's, so usually deals with the gnome on her rare visits to the temple.

Thomas Copper: Bryn's half-brother, who is much older than her (32). He is a coppersmith, making and repairing pots and tools. After their mother died, Thomas reluctantly raised Bryn, but he felt that she had no talent or interest in the family business, not respect for their family's honest reputation, so he kicked her out at age 15. In spite, she changed her surname to Cooper.

Thulmir Quent*: See Denizens of Freeport, p. 87. Quent is an "adventure broker" who helped put Bryn in touch with the other PCs.

Juan Sanchez: Background Characters
