BOW BRIDGE, WATERINGBURY

With regard to the loan of £1,967 to be applied to the building of this bridge, the Clerk reported that he had communicated with a number of firms and had experienced great difficulty in obtaining the money. He eventually got an offer from the Local Government Mutual Guarantee Society to lend at 4 1/2 per cent.

Mr. Wood: When has it to be repaid?

The Clerk: The repayments will be spread over ten years. I submitted the offer to the Chairman and Vice-Chairman and they accepted it.

The Council endorsed their action.

Mr. Mr. Halls, who designed the bridge, wrote that the work of construction was well in hand, that the ferry had been started and every effort made to look after the comfort of the public. It was elicited that the ferryman was being paid 35s. a week, and that he would be required for three or four months.

A Committee consisting of Messrs. Hawes, Champion, and Wood was appointed to inspect the work from time to time.

BOW BRIDGE, WATERINGBURY.

Mr. R. H. Halls, the engineer, wrote stating that the work of constructing the new Bow Bridge, Wateringbury, was proceeding satisfactorily. He had had an offer of £10 for the old timber of the bridge, and he would like the Council to say whether they would accept the same. After some discussion, the matter was left to Mr. Wood and Mr. Hawes, with power to act.
