WATERINGBURY, KENT.

The grounds, which are situated near the S.E.R. Station, and adjoining the Railway Hotel, were well patronised on Monday. Hammond and Co, of London, had sent a first-class lot of birds, and, notwithstanding that the light was not so bright as could have been desired, fair scores were made. Proceedings commenced with a match between Mr. Wightman (24 yards rise) and Mr. Brown (26), which resulted a victory for the former. The principal event was a competition for a double-barrelled breechloader, nine members, at £1 each, handicap distances, in which Mr. Willing cleverly won killing six birds out of seven at 28 yards rise. Speculation was brisk during the day, prices covering from 5 to 2 to 3 to 1 on the gun. £1 sweeps followed until the birds were exhausted, the principal winners being Messrs. Brown, Willing, and Edwards. Baker, not being on the ground with guns and ammunition, caused great disappointment. Mr. Nichols officiated as handicapper and referee.
