Extract from Derbyshire Times of 19th September 1896 reporting on a sale at Stancliffe Hall including shorthorns.

The sale was attended by most of the prominent dealers and breeders in this and the neighbouring counties. The pedigree shows the dam of the family of Stenciiffe Charmers (Countess 13th) was purchased from Messrs F. Leney and Sons, Waterinbury, on July 2nd, 1884, and was referred to in the introduction to the sale catalogue in the following terms: — "The Wateringbury herd has now been established over a quarter of a century from some of the best Bates and Knightley blood in the kingdom. During the great period of 1870-5 the herd obtained much celebrity by the beautiful animals of the Charmer tribe, which were bred from some of the best of the late Mr J. C. Adkins' herd at Milcote."
