Focus on Freeport #9: Hell's Foes
Note that three of the sample characters (Dvl, Dbl, Hel) are used as is for NPCs in Hell in Freeport (Filthy Ike, Plutonius and Rogal).
pp. 1-2, Devil Slayer: Why is a bastard sword required? Hellblades do not have such a specific restriction.
p. 2, Sample Devil Slayer: “Bar” should be “Bbn” (barbarian). HP should be 89 (average for listed HD).
pp. 4-5, Hellblade: Sneak Attack: If the character has a sneak attack bonus from another class, these damage bonuses should stack. (Compare Assassin, DMG, pp. 29-20.)
p. 5, Sample Hellblade: Detect illusions only gives a +10 bonus, and only to detect invisible creatures. (Confirmed by author Jim Bishop on GR forum, 10/19/2002, re: [Hellblade Prestige Class Errata].)
p. 6, Table 1.4: "Spells per Day" should read "Turning and Spells Per Day." Remove the first "1st" level line; it was repeated from Table 1.2.
p. 7, Confession Table: The save DC to remove the level is not given. [Per "Foes of the Fiends" (see below), DC = 15 + outsider's HD.]
3.5 Revisions
The Book of Fiends web enhancement "Foes of the Fiends" (http://grfiles.game-host.org/gr_files/FoesOfTheFiends.pdf ) updates these four classes to 3.5, and adds epic progressions. FOTF also generalizes these classes to fight fiends of all alignments.
