Clayton's 2011 Autobiography
Although I left for California just prior to attending Staples my heart as always been in Westport. Over the past 50 plus years I’ve developed several successful businesses, owned a semi-pro football team, partnered in a NBA “D” League venture and have enjoyed several small successes as well as heartbreaks. Married a girl from Oklahoma, Teena and we’ve been together since 1964, 2 boys, a daughter and 8 grandkids. We’ve been blessed as they all reside here in Bakersfield California located 100 miles north of Los Angeles. Graduated from the California State College system, served during Vietnam with the U.S. Army and have been self employed most of my business life.
Having attended the 45th reunion I realize how much I missed childhood friends, Staples High School and the Westport life. Things were a bit faster here in California, but I’ve developed some great friendships and political relationships while keeping in contact with a few lifelong friends from Westport. My sister June a Staples graduate lives in St. Louis and brother Richard is living here in Bakersfield still working on his music.
Best wishes to all, I’ll see many of you on the other side.
Clay’s Update (2011)
Finally retired on January 4th of this year. Will be spending more time at our beach home in Pismo Beach, California. Life has offered numerous opportunities as well as pitfalls, but all in all Teena and I have been pleased with great kids, grandkids and now a granddaughter. After having two open heart surgeries, several stints and angioplasties I’m still going strong. Have stayed in touch with Hatch and Klutchnick on a regular basis and look forward to the reunion in February.
