Grant Farquhar
Grant's 2011 Autobiography
After graduating from Staples I went to Bates College in Lewiston ME, graduating with a degree in Economics. After Bates I went to the U ofMichigan in Ann Arbor and received my MBA in 1967. My first job was with IBM in the Data Processing division. Met my wife Janifer, in Ann Arbor. We had Jeff and Sara and after 10 years with IBM in Detroit I was promoted to divisional headquarters in White Plains and we moved to Fairfield CT. After3 years was promoted to Management in Minneapolis. We loved Minneapolis and chose to stay there versus entertaining some more moves with IBM. One of my smartest moves was to join Hazeltine National Golf club (hosted '83 Senior Open, '91 US Open, 2002 PGA, 2006 US Amateur, 2009 PGA, 2016 Ryder Cup), and have pursued my passion 'golf'. After IBM I went into the consulting business and became an owner of the firm after a management buyout in 1986. We were bought out by a larger firm and I joined a small firm specializing in selling software to larger colleges/Universities in 1994. In the meantime Jeff graduated from DePauw in '94 and Sara from Drake in '97. Sara married an IBM pilot in 2004 and lives in Sherman CT with 18 month old twins and Jeff is still looking around. I retired in 2004 and Janifer retired from teaching at Wayzata High School in 2006. We currently split our time between Tucson and Minneapolis.
