Eva Acquino Richman
Eva's 2011 Autobiography
My fondest memories of Staples are of the choir and chorus and the various singing duets and quartets that we formed for a show or program and all the fun we had in practicing for them. Anyone remember Sleep Kentucky Babe? To this day I will often hear a magnificent choral piece on the radio and feel so gratified that Mr Ohanian had taught us that very same piece. Of course, he worked us like dogs but the end result was pretty amazing.
After graduating from UCONN with a BA in English Lit and History and no marketable skills I married our classmate Doug Richman and promptly set off for three fantastic months in Europe with him. Reality set in when it was time to head off to Palo Alto, CA and find a job to support us through Doug's medical school years.
Teaching was a pretty good option so I obtained my required fifth year of university at San Jose State and began my long career in teaching. First there were several years in elementary teaching and then directing a Head Start Center and finally many years at the U of C San Diego English Language Program teaching foreign students English.
I have enjoyed teaching all ages but teaching ESL to young foreign adults was definitely an opportunity to learn. They brought the rest of the world and all its charms and foibles to my classroom.
I have had the great fortune to be able to travel to many countries and to live in interesting places like Costa Rica and Cambridge, England and still hope to check off many more on my bucket list.
I'm into Yoga, too, and love my book clubs and walking groups which really keep the mind and body going.
Doug and I have two wonderful children. Sara Giovanna is 39 and teaches Sociology and soon will have her LCSW degree. Matthew is 34 and is a chef who will be opening his first restaurant this winter in Pacific Beach.
Last but not least is our adorable, mischievous 4 year old granddaughter Isabella Louise who puts the sparkle in our lives.
I look forward to being with all of you who can attend and will miss those classmates who cannot.

Eva and Doug Richman ’s Update (2021)
After graduating from college, we married (56 years this June) and then spent 7 years in Palo Alto, CA, 3 years in Chevy Chase, MD, 1 year in Boston before moving to La Jolla, CA 45 years ago. Eva taught school before retiring and has since focused on her passions for gardening, reading, friends and family. Doug finally retired in 2019 from the San Diego VA Medical Center and the University of California San Diego after 50 years of seeing patients with HIV and other Infectious Diseases (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Richman). He remains with the University working part time. We took opportunities provided by the more available time to increase our travel (Argentina, Northwest Washington and Victoria Island, Baja California, Portugal and Tasmania); however, a pandemic put the damper on 2020 to say the least.
Over the past year our contacts have been limited to our son Matt, our daughter Sara Giovanna and our 13 year old granddaughter Isabella.
We hope all our classmates remain healthy and safe with the hope that life and the country can return to a new normal. We look forward to catching up in the 60th reunion zoom call.
