John's 2011 Autobiography
After graduation in 1961 I went to work for my father as a carpenter. We built and remodeled homes in the Westport area.
In 1968 I became engaged to Janet Walker and received my draft notice. So, in January 1969 at the age of 25 I was inducted into the United States Army. Janet and I were married the following August and we lived in Germany for fourteen months.
In 1971 we returned to Westport and I continued working with my father and Janet gave birth to our son Blake and to our daughter Lea in 1973. When my father retired I ran the business until 1978 then decided I needed a position with more security and was hired to be head of maintenance at Staples High School. I was involved with the first renovation of the high school by working closely with the contractors. After leaving Staples in 1985 I went to work for Hewitt Associates and continued working there until I retired.
Over the years Janet and I have traveled around the USA, taken several trips to Mexico, the Caribbean, and as Janet is English, we have been to England numerous times to visit her family and in the last five years we have had the opportunity to spend time in Scotland and Ireland. Of all the trips we have taken the scariest was to the Isle of Margarita as we traveled through Venezuela.
At the present time I am a member of the Newtown Lions.
Our Children are now married and have given us five grandchildren. Blake is an Imaging Scientist working in Rochester NY. Lea is an Interior designer specializing in kitchens and baths. She now has her own business in Fairfield County where she designs and coordinates any home renovations her clients require. She has also been published in several magazines. Needless to say I am very proud of my children.
