Lab: Alyx has a small Lab at the Web construct where she works.

Retainer: Michael Addams is Alyx’s assistant and admin. A college grad with a law degree, he worked for a prestigious firm as a para-legal struggling to raise his daughter alone. When the girl’s abusive mother came looking for her, Michael was forced to run.

Alyx is helping Michael to hide while he figures out what to do. His ex is the son of a powerful political family, and their connections run deep.

Alternate Identity: Alyx has begun to put together an alternate identity to use when in the field. This id started more as a hobby and exercise for a possible undercover assignment that was never approved, but rather than letting withered his worked to cultivate it and let in grow. One never knows when a new name might be helpful.

PARADIGM

Power, true power, comes from relationships. The connections we build and maintain with the world around us. Whether its Confucius’ 5 relationships or the social strata of a high school, the connections we forge with others help us to build our lives and find our place in this world: parent to child, friend to friend, customer to merchant, it never ends.

The principle even extends outward beyond people. A baseball player takes care of his lucky bat, which inspires him to hit the game winning home run. A beloved car is taken care so it always delivers you to your destination.

The world is created through relationships, and the Syndicate has recognized this power. One starts building relationships with people, then with their tools, and finally between the mind, the body, and the spirit. This way the extend their power and influence outward into the world as they create something greater than themselves . . . a community.

PRACTICE

Ars Cupiditae – The most important, perhaps the most intimate relationship is the one people have with themselves. The Art of Desire, practiced since before the Order of Reason, allows a Syndicate mage to align mind, body, and spirit. Ars Cupiditae is a set of skills that include poetry, music, fighting styles, to come together and allow a Mage to better herself while excelling in the world around him. A practitioner never stops working to better themselves, to develop skill in another language, master an instrument, or perfect a fighting kata.

FOCI

Bronze Coins – two lesser metals, copper and tin, coming together to form a relationship and create something greater: Bronze. Each coin, inscribed with one of the 5 relationships of Confucianism, representing the formal relationships people commonly establish today, along with the responsibilities each party has to the other. It represent a personal relationship of mutual respect and obligation.

Alyx’s coins are minted from a small businessman she has built a relationship with over the years. She has managed to become a valued customer and a good friend, and the proprietor is careful to craft his merchandise to his precise specifications. This relationship, along with the mixing of metals and the desire to maintain a reputation for quality, all come together in the coins making their value greater than the bronze allow itself.

Smart Phone – The world is getting smaller, with all of the knowledge of mankind now at our fingertips. With these small wonders, people are able to maintain connections or create new relationships with complete strangers, establishing new relationships and reaffirming old: whether through on-line dating, text messages, or banking.

Alyx’s’s phone is a bioDROID Nexus model Bluetooth connected to a pair of polarizing Smart Glasses. It’s been customized to work with the advanced Science of the Technocracy while also help her access his own tools.

Custom Gibson SG Guitar – Alyx has a custom Gibson guitar, hand made by the masters themselves. She speaks little of the history or circumstances of the guitar, other than to say that although it was a gift, it was one she had to earn.

Music is not mystical. It is an expression of mathematics. Applying it to the world is no different than a math equation, but music can reach out and touch the soul in a way math cannot, impacting the world around the Mage.

If Alyx can’t have her Gibson with her, she will have a number of musical pieces recorded on her phone. Preloading her Spotify 2 with music, she can playing a number of selection simultaneously to create a desired effect based on what she’s chosen.
