Notes:

Jodi Darrow is one of the small number of Wraiths to have survived the Penitent Sinner’s attempts to tear down the Veil which separates the world of the living with the world of the dead. The Maricopa County Shadowlands have become a realm of the Apocalypse, where a small number of Wraiths struggle to survive the pull of Oblivion and the Specters it spawns.

In life, Jodi was an orphan who was bounced from foster home to foster home. She never had a place of her own, a home where she could feel safe. When she graduated high school, she immediately joined the army to earn money for college. Serving a tour in Afghanistan and two in Iraq before returning home to start school.

In her second year, Jodi was lured to her death by a friend. Invited out for drinks, instead she was drugged and brought to an abandoned building where she was stripped and sacrificed, her blood used to fuel a spell.

In death, Jodi was Reaped by a Legion recruiter, and brought into the service of the Hierarchy. Her service came to an end when the Penitent Sinner’s spell destroyed the Wraiths of Maricopa. Slumbering in a fetter after a battle with the Giovanni, Jodi awakened to discover she was alone.

Jodi has managed to scrounge what resources she needs to survive. Her Legion training gives her the skills to survive the harsh world that is the Shadowlands as she hunts down her friend and investigates her and her allies to discover why she was killed.

Possessions:

Artifact (Sorrow) – Kukri of Stygian Steel – once owned by her mentor, Sorrow is able to inflict aggravated damage on spirits, wraiths, and specters.

Relic 3 (Baby) – Gibson Guitar – Baby was owned by a struggling musician who’s only source of income was his guitar. While he lived in poverty in the U.S., his music had become a sensation overseas, but his manager hid this from him to steal royalties. When her theft was discovered, she murdered him. The emotion energy of his music and the tragedy of his death has allowed Baby to continue on in the Dark Umbra.

Relic 2 (Old Duster) – An old brown duster worn by a member of the “Trench Coat Posse” during a school shooting. The image of one wearing the duster has been ingrained in society through movies like The Matrix and the coat lowers Intimidation rolls by 2.

Passions:

Solve the mystery of why I was killed. (Hate) 4 points

- Jodi knows who killed her but she does not understand why. Her friend Jackie was not alone when she was killed. Who was with her and what binds them together? Why was she chosen as a sacrifice? Who was the sacrifice to? What was the ultimate goal? These questions need to be answered.

Become an art critic (Hope) 3 points

- Throughout her life Jodi never had anything of permanence and there was nothing for her to have faith in besides herself. The idea that there might be beauty in the world to inspire people, drive them to excel, which influenced people long dead and people who will be born, helps to give Jodi hope that there might be something enduring in the world.

Explore the Unknown (Vigilance) 3 points

- Jodi never had much stability growing up. It wasn’t until she joined the army that her lime gained predictable structure which would allow her to feel safe enough to begin planning for the future. In the Wasteland of the Underworld, the world is even more of a place of the unknown. From her Haunt, Jodi’s begun to explore the world around her, investigating the strange creatures and denizens on both sides of the Veil in an attempt to get an understanding of the world she finds herself in.

Fetters:

Whiskey Flask – 3 points

On her last night alive, Jodi shared a drink of whiskey with her “friend” before the pair went out for what supposed to be a night of fun. This sharing of drink became a symbol of betrayal, and the cheap flask that was won in a poker game among her comrades-in-arms serves as a reminder of the ultimate injustice of her death.

Silver Cross – 2 points

The only memento of Jodi’s life before foster care, she’s been told it once belonged to her mother. In life Jodi rarely wore it, but would occasionally take it out and meditate on it as she considered where she came from.

Travel Book: Ireland – 3 points

All the places she could have gone. The life she might have lived. The possibilities of the future. Gone. Jodi will never see the world. Will never meet someone and fall in love. Will never share her bed with her husband and wake up next to him in the morning. She will never know children. Her friend took everything she had and everything she would have.

Apartment – 2 points – also her Haunt

Jodi’s first home. A place that was hers where she could feel safe. The apartment has been empty for the last few months as the building manager has had trouble convincing people to rent it. It’s small and inexpensive, so this has not been a serious issue yet, which serves Jodi just fine.
