Role: Gadget Girl & New Kid – To call River a genius is to underestimate her. Her brilliance doesn’t come from her innovation but from her ability to approach problems from an unexpected direction and create inventions and solutions that seem absurd until one flips the on switch. River is rarely seen outside of the crew, and only enters the field when she needs to install and activate one of her inventions. The Phoenix job is actually only her second Heist, but Tobias was impressed with her enough to bring her on board for the job.
Appearance: River is in her mid-twenties and still has the innocence and a touch of naiveté that one finds in people just starting out in life. When she’s not in greasy work overalls she prefers to dress in the latest styles and fashions that she can afford. She loves loud music, dancing, and going out with people her age for a good time.
Personality: River’s personality has been described “bubbly.” She is the optimistic “glass is half full” type of person who has never had a bad thing to say about another person. She loves music and partying as well as fashion, shoes and make-up. She hates it when others try to make a person feel bad because of what they enjoy, no matter what that might be. As a result she tries to be socially conscience.
She is also a true feminist, and woe unto anyone who seeks to treat a person differently because of their gender. She has been none to get involved in situations when she feels others are being treated poorly, and this can result in unwanted attention.
History: River was born in rural Alabama. Her mother is a school teacher and her father a mechanic. She excelled in school and she received a full ride scholarship to MIT where she was discovered by the Children of Ether, who saw her quirky solutions to complex problem the exact quality they desired in apprentices.
River completed her apprenticeship within the Children of Ether 2 years ago and lasted 6 months before she wandered off on her own. Invention is wonderful, the greatest expression of Science there is, but Invention without purpose is does nothing to advance the world.
River is young and doesn’t yet know what she wants to do with her life, but Tobias Pickett has given her a way to make the funds to discover that purpose, and shown her how the world can offer her a glimpse of all the possibilities out there.
