The Basement
Underworld Speakeasy - Neutral Territory
Located beneath a 24 hour convenience store with no name, the Basement is a speakeasy that has been secretly operating in Phoenix since the early days of Prohibition. Once, it offered booze and women. Today, the booze is legal and the ownership more progressive, offering companionship of either sex to anyone interested.
But the Basement’s true commodity is information. Are you interested in gossip? Want to learn what skeletons are hiding in a politico’s closet? Which police are on the take and which are dangerously honest? Or just want to find a new drug supplier? Or a problem solver to deal with an ex-wife demanding full custody of the kids?
Admittance to the Basement is limited to members and guests. If you are not a part of the underworld of Maricopa county chances are you’ve never heard of it (Streetwise Skill). Even if you have heard of it, do you know which convenience store in the city to walk into and ask for Al’s basement?
If you’re shown the stairs leading down, you’ve find over 100 doorknobs on the wall. You only get one try. Do you know which one to turn?
Do you belong?
Because if you do, there’s no secret in the city you cannot uncover, and no illicit service you can’t find.
The Basement is the Underworld’s equivalent to Elysium. Violence is forbidden on pain of death. Very few members of the Community can be found in the Basement. Other than the Wolf Gravedigger, from We Blame Our Parents, no one else has been able to get membership to visit regularly.
OOC: Within game terms, becoming a guest is possible through Allies or NPCs who are already members. To become a member requires Status 2 in the appropriate crime syndicate (Underworld, Mafia, Street Gangs, Outlaws, etc) and the sponsorship of a current member.
