SARA ON STAGE
History: Since she was a little girl, Sara has always wanted to be a cop, following in the footsteps of both her parents and grandparents. Born to a middle class family in the suburbs of Chicago, she attended Penn State and graduated with honors before joining the military. She served two tours, spending much of her first overseas in Kosovo supporting the UN, followed by a second tour as an investigator for the JAG Corp, traveling to military bases across the world as needed, and immersing herself in cultures of Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
After her tours ended she returned to the States and joined the Phoenix PD where she was mentored by Lt. Eric DuSable. The surly veteran recognized her talent, seeing much of himself in her, and made sure she was assigned to him whenever possible. The two were partners and close friends for a number of years, and then came the case of Sarah Perez. The girl had been kidnapped after becoming involved with a death cult, and while pursuing a lead the two detectives were attacked by the Risen mercenary Coffin. DuSable was killed, but Sara was saved by the Mages of Phoenix Rising. Thus, she was introduced to magic and monsters, a knowledge that continues to trouble her as she tries to bring justice for the dead while protecting the living from what's really out there.
She has not decided what to do with her knowledge, but as she learns more about Phoenix Rising, she wonders if they could be a potent resource, maybe even allies.
Today, Eric would be proud to see Sara has made Lieutenant, closing a number of high profile cases and providing grieving families with closure. Though driven, Sara learned from her parents and her mentor the importance of balance, and the need to keep the job from eating one alive. She’s active in community arts, and appears regularly on stage in small local productions. She’s talented enough to land regular roles, but will never make it in Hollywood or New York. That’s just fine by her.
Sara’s true calling is bringing justice for the dead.
Sara has an on-again, off-again relationship with Keith Bryson, who unknown to her is the Hollow One Chaos Mage Lazarus. Though she knows of magic and monsters, and is fully aware of Keith's nature as a Mage, she is unaware of the supernatural factions at work in Phoenix. There are plenty of monsters in the world who are human, and it's rare that one of her homicides actually involves anything other than a normal human.
Until now, her relationship with Keith has been enough to offer her some degree of protection, but between her skill set and her recent promotion, it’s only a matter of time before ambitious minds look in her direction.
In recent years Sara's profile has grown after closing a number of major cases, including the murder of former Senator McClane's daughter, and the drive by killing of a high school student who turned out to be involved with a domestic terrorist organization. Last year she was instrumental in the arrest of the leader of the Oath Keepers militia. The case has been turned into a best selling book, and the right have been optioned to Hollywood. Sara's friend, who wrote Breaking Oaths is also writing the screenplay (Fame 2).
This has resulted in Sara calling in favors to create an alternate identity, a stage name as she continues to act in small productions. She guards this name zealously, as it has become one of her most prized possessions as it gives her the freedom to pursue her passions without giving up her calling.
