AN ACT relating to Lyme disease.. 1
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: 2
SECTION 1 . A NEW SECTION OF KRS CHAPTER 214 IS CREATED TO 3 READ AS FOLLOWS: 4
(11) A health care provider who orders a laboratory test for the presence of Lyme 5 disease shall provide detailed test results to the patient or his or her legal 6 representative. 7
(22) The detailed results of a test for Lyme disease shall include the following 8 information in writing:: "According to the Centers for Disease Control and 9 Prevention, as of 2011 Lyme disease is the sixth fastest growing disease in the 10 United States.
Your health care provider has ordered a laboratory test for the
11 presence of Lyme disease for you. Current laboratory testing for Lyme disease
12 can be problematic and standard laboratory tests often result in false negative
13 and false positive results, and if done too early, you may not have produced
14 enough antibodies to be considered positive because your immune response
15 requires time to develop antibodies. If you are tested for Lyme disease, and the
16 results are negative, this does not necessarily mean you do not have Lyme
17 disease. If you continue to experience symptoms, you should contact your health
18 care provider and inquire about the appropriateness of retesting or additional
19 treatment."
