PITTSBURGH – A Pittsburgh man has filed suit against a doctor and medical facility over the treatment he received after being diagnosed with Lyme disease.
Christian D. Ehret filed a complaint on March 8 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against UPMC, doing business as University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Neel Shah, M.D. alleging medical malpractice.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in February 2016, UPMC Presbyterian Eye diagnosed him with Lyme disease and referred him to Shah. He alleges Shah told him that he did not have Lyme disease, and the plaintiff alleges his symptoms have worsened.
The plaintiff holds UPMC and Shah responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide appropriate and competent medical care and treatment and failed to prescribe intravenous antibiotic therapy.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of this court, actual damages and punitive damages. He is represented by Anthony P. Piccirilli Jr. in Pittsburgh.
