Domination maps
UT DOMINATION
Unreal Tournament Domination is perhaps the least popular product game-type when compared DM, CTF or Assault. Over the years, there always seemed to be far-fewer custom DOM maps available at all the various download sites and only small numbers of public servers hosting DOM matches (that's just my observation - I could be wrong). In fact, I somehow acquired the impression that more people were playing Assault online than DOM - even though there were even less custom AS maps available than custom DOM maps!
Anyways, I happen to really enjoy playing DOM (2-team and 4-team matches), and I think I've been doing my part in trying to provide some new DOM levels over the years. I have found that DM layouts can work well for DOM gameplay, usually with only a small amount of tweaking. Since DM designs often have pickup specific areas with associated risk, these locations are good spots for Control points. Vice-versa as well... for a lot of DOM maps - depends on the layout.
Released ( 23 maps )
UT DOMINATION - 5 CP
Large 5 control point layout supports 10-20 players - Features UTR XPickups..
Speedy Ancient Alien Temple DOM, with a CP in each of the temples. In this DOM the teams keep moving so there's lots of action!
BETA1 - Released Oct 2018
More Info:
This version of the "Four Temples" map features UTR XPickups from UT99.org. There are double-speed pickups around the map in reach of spawn points and several wildcard pickup bases in the map as well, for speedy fun action!
This map is for BETA testing the gameplay, layout and placements. Other comments aimed at improving the map are welcome, although I'm not sure I would have enough interest to change much.
The original DM Four Temples map (bsp, textures, pickups, lighting) didn't take that all that long to create - maybe a week or two back in 2002. A fair amount of time was spent later on deciding what should be done with it and experimenting with different gametypes.
In fact, it was merged with other mapping projects maps at various times, the most recent being the Monsterhunt version of "Temple of Dragoms" as the last set of objectives.
This turned out to be 800 brushes too many, and so that huge Monster Hunt map was split into two parts. The Part-2 map includes the valley and temples, now configured for Monster Hunt and continuing where the Part-1 map leaves off in the adventure.
Anyways, I still had the DOM, so decided to release it as a BETA and see how that goes.

Some Xidea weapons are also found in the map.
In fact there seem to be some references in the map to Monsterhunt package UTMHpack.u so i have to include it.
MonsterNoScore mutator is included so the unreal monsters don't count as kills.
Utemple.umx from unreal of course, since it's temples :P
Many thanks to UT99.org and the makers of UTR XPickups and especially the XReplacer mutator :)
UT DOMINATION - 4 CP
Large 4 control point layout supports 12-20 players - Normal weapons.
This DOM set in an Ancient Island Temple. Some CP exist in other ancient realms reachable only via hidden portals. Green stuff courtesy of Creavion and Angel statue mesh made by Proof - Many thanks guys!
BETA - Released Oct 2018
More Info:
This DOM set in an Ancient Island Temple. Some CP exist in other ancient realms reachable only via hidden portals. This version of "Island-X" features normal pickups and not UTR XPickups. There are plenty of guns and ammo around, and the CP are easy enough to reach so speedy powerups are not really needed here. I would suggest trying the map with 11 masterful BOTs in 4 teams (3 players each).
This map was originally intended for the 2018 Awesome Mapping Contest (AMC) at UT99.org, however, when I also presented DOM AMC Four Temples as a second map some of the mapper started whining "not fair!" So, I pulled them both and submitted one map, CTF AMC Big And Ugly to that contest. Other than Revelation's map, none were as Awesome as the Big And Ugly one ;)
For this Island map, I'm not sure I could get arsed enough to do too much more, since it is fairly complete, as is.
This was map was originally from 2005. Started life as an ASSAULT map, fiddled with DM version for a bit before settling on DOM. There were originally four small sub-maps with the temple section being a hub.
The sub-maps were used as Blito 300K contest maps in 2006 and 2008, and eventually only two remained (parched arena and dante arena) each with a Control Point, and then the remaining Control Points were moved into to the temple "hub".
As a four point DOM the map seems good with 4 teams of 3 players, balanced in team scores with masterful bots and lots of action.
SPECIAL CREDITS:
FacePalmT.utx Trees, rocks, plants, etc. meshes from Creavion, used by permission.
The beautiful Angel mesh is made by Proof for Creavion, also used by permission.
Music is Np-ty.umx from Operation NaPali ( since it's ancient temple and such )
UT DOMINATION - 3 CP
Large 3 Control Point layout supports 12-24 players - Features UTR XPickups.
This is a Speedy DOM conversion of the original CTF-FNB-BigAndRusty map. This one was laying around for years. Big map - you really have to keep moving and X-pickups helps you out with that!
FINAL - Released Oct 2018
More Info:
This map is a DOM conversion of the giant CTF-FNB-Big And Rusty map, and like the CTF uses UTR XPickups to speed up the gameplay.
I got the idea to convert this one after having successfully converted some other large maps for DOM gameplay. God knows we need MORE domination maps!
The original "Big and Rusty" was based on the CTF-6H-BigAndRusty which I made for "King Mango's 6-hour challenge" contest held at Unreal Playground during September 2003. This was judged to huge to be fun for server play so was put on the shelf.
After that a scaled-down Rusty map was released instead (exact same layout, just 50% smaller). Well, fast-forward to now and include UTR XPickups with lots of "double-speed" powerups and suddenly this beast is not so huge. Fill it up with masterful BOTS and enjoy!
Rusty was still quite LARGE and had considerably BETTER gameplay and performance that it's giant predecessor. The map was generally well received by players online at the time, and feedback was provided to further improve the gameplay. the result was CTF-FNB-Rusty][ which is the BEST rusty map, without a doubt.
The BOTs are very aggressive in Rusty ][ and can snipe you, deemer you, kill your a$$ good, and grab and CAP by randomly using multiple routes - thanks to the Bot-40 smart Alt-path actor!
I still had plans for the old giant map, thinking if I could make it more exciting, it might have a life. So during January 2011 I converted the monster to use UTR XPickups from UT99.org. Well that worked out quite well. A slightly different CTF experience with XPickups. Might even work well with strangelove rockets or Quantum Fighter Jets.
Anyways, worthy of a release IMO after all these years. Cheers!
UT DOMINATION - 3 CP
Medium 3 control point vertical layout supports 8-16 players - Normal weapons.
This was my first map for the 2014 UT99.org 512K mapping contest. This is a jump crazy 3 point DOM match in an endless vertical drop. Falling damage is handled (well, sort of - heh ;)
This is the fixed up FINAL Version (V4).
FINAL - V4 - Released Jan 2015
More Info:
This DOM map was completed for the UT99.org 2014 512K contest. V4 adds a FallingDamagaHandler (tested) AND some vertical panels for COVER. This design was based on a map originally created for the last Blito3 300k contest (Dec 2013 - Jan 2014) but was a too big too submit so it went on the shelf.
For this 512K contest, I built a new map using the same concept as the 300k design, but using warpzones to expand the layout - however - player HAS TO JUMP DOWN to change floors.
Best strategy here is to keep moving and don't try to hang around a given control point too long since you're completely exposed so you'll be killed quickly. To reach the other CP quickly best thing to do it jump and aim to hit the glowing ORB that it closest to the CP platform you want. Good luck and hope you enjoy the map. FNB ;)
I recommend 2 teams of 6 Masterful+ bots or 4 teams of 3 Masterful+ bots.
Thanks to the folks at UT99.org for holding the 2014 512k contest :)
Switch' and JohnnySix for swJumppad.u and fallingDamageHandler.u

Welcome to the Liandri Museum of Ancient Civilizations. Originally designed for FoT3 in 2006, this map became a huge ART project and thus missed the map pack deadline. Also features original soundtrack music I made using ModPlug tracker and some real instruments. So much work went into this project on and off for years that I eventually decided to put it out as a BETA. Great layout for DM matches as well.

Fallen Angel (actual title is "Where Fallen Angels Dwell" was a 2006 DOM map orignally planned for the TimeWarp Fusion Of Time mappack. It might have been finished for that map pack if not for a big gaff on my part - I'd spent such a long time creating textures to use in the map and in one day managed to mess most of them up in Photoshop.
Since I had not kept proper source image backups I was screwed!
Not feeling like repeating all that texture work I decided to just shelve the map.
Several times since then I have attempted to get the ball rolling on the map but I always become incredibly bored futzing around in Photoshop and so would end up working on any other map, lol.
In early December 2009, mapper Swanky announced a UT 10th Anniversary Deathmatch map pack at Unreal Playground and invited other mappers to join. So I tested FA for DM + TDM and it had decent gameplay.
So I was motivated to work on it for that reason but the map pack soon fizzled out due to a general lack of interest by the participants, which is a shame. I did do a fair bit of work on the map before suspending the effort to do other things.
When I do work on this map I work on the DM version. The DM and the DOM use the same layout (obviously) but the DM has more complete areas and lighting. So the DOM will simply be a conversion of the eventual completed DM (whenever that happens, LOL!)

Okay, so that's a rather stupid idea of a story so would you kindly just ignore it :)
This map is a DOM conversion based on the CTF-FNB-OrionsRevenge map. One base plus the base's outer middle and middle section form a highly connected circuit layout. Good for DOM - IMO best with teams of 5 or 6 or 4 team DOM with teams of 3 or 4.
Construction history: The base area of this map came originally from a discarded section of the middle of CTF-FNB-SpaceJunk (2003), which was integrated into the original Orions Curse assault contest map, which was later split into 3 smaller maps, which after further downsizing left this section once again discarded (2004). So, I modified it for CTF, adding side routes, upper areas, lots of curves, a new skybox and consistant moderate detail.
I added ShockSystems textures into the mix and modified several for CTF to give the new map a bit more flavor. Fell down on the lighting a bit, but methinks it's pretty good looking anyway :) I really focused on making this map run well, so the scenes are lower polys, there's no HSD, and I used fewer coronas than usual. Improving Frame Rates was a high priority.
Music is Resurrection by Toxeen (NPResurrect.umx).
UT DOMINATION - 4 CP

UT Domination: 3-CP
Medium speedy DOM based on FNB-TDC-2374
Supports 8-12 players, features UTR XPickups from UT99.org
FINAL - Released Nov 2011
More Info:
In Feb 2006, UT mapper and NaliCIty reviewer Nahand held a Theme Design contest at Unreal Playground. Open to all mappers, the idea was to take a DM layout (by Nahand) and then modify the map for any theme you liked. I asked Nahand if I could do a CTF instead and he said okay, as long as the bases matched the DM layout.
So the resulting map was a hybrid of some gothic forms and Egypt-Tech ideas, and released long after the contest was over.
At the time I couldn't think of a map name so I called it "2374" - the year mentioned in the UT-99 intro city movie. The map is a temple of sorts, in some futuristic alien city, somewhere in the UT-99 universe.
This is a 3 Control-Point UT-DOMINATION version of the TDC-2374 map. The original CTF layout was modified for DM and then converted to DOM.
UTR XPickups have been added with two doubleSpeed powerups to make this a fast and furious DOM match for teams of 3 to 6. There's plenty of Z-axis and variety in fighting areas. Good for 8 - 12 players.
The music track is T.Y.R.A. for Team Vortex (NP-ty.umx) by Toxeen.
UT Domination: 3-CP
Medium speedy DOM based on FNB-DeadlyWorship
Supports 6-10 players, features UTR XPickups from UT99.org
FINAL - Released Nov 2011
More Info:
This is 3-Control Point UT DOMINATION map based on DM-FNB-DeadlyWorship. Includes UTR XPickups and some other changes. The SlickWilly Firefly actors have been removed (so no more exploding lava) and as a result the framerates are better.
Pickup locations and BOT paths have been reworked and tweaked as well.
Two double speed Xpickups and a WildCard pickup base have been added for some speedy FRAGs.
Unlike most of my other DOM conversions this one was not requested. After improving the performance and gameplay of the CTC map, I decided to convert it for DOM to see how it plays. Meh, it's okay - better than a lot of DOM maps I've played. So you can be the judge... The UT world needs a lot more domination maps anyways!
Music is Journey from the game Unreal: Return To NaPali.
UT Domination: 4-CP
Large speedy DOM based on FNB-HyperFrag
Supports 10-20 players, features UTR XPickups from UT99.org

When I converted the original CTF into a DOM map, I removed one of the bases and made a few modifications.
After adding XPickups, I adjusted the path network and tweaked placements, and then tested tested tested - Altogether took about 4 hours of hard work. Note that there is also a DM / TDM version of the map available.

The DM map was a conversion project, so it didn't take too long to do everything.
Removed a base, added XPickups, retuned the BOTS and placements, tested and tweaked. Took about 5 hours for the DM and DOM changes took another 3 hours including testing and tweaking, for a total of about 8 hours for both maps.

UT Domination: 4-CP
Large Urban Multi-Level Liandri Warehouse.
Supports 12-20 players, features UTR XPickups from UT99.org.
FINAL - Released Jun 2010
More Info:
This Speedy 4-Control point domination map is set in a huge old Liandri Corp warehouse in the industrial region of some UT city. It is a specially modified version of the current DM map but configured for DOM, and features the UTR Xpickups (from UT99.org) for a cool experience.
To begin with, this map is VERY OLD!! So it's not a super great looking map. DM-BoxesRuS was a large sniper deathmatch map I built originally in early 2002 after playing a few months on sniper servers. I'd always liked urban environments, especially if they were convincingly done. I thought I'd try one of my own and so decided on a urban warehouse locale where I had the building as the center surrounded by buildings from which players could snipe.
Boxes-R-uS was my first map design to use more than 1000 brushes, but it suffered from some nasty HOMs and overall poor framerates when inside the warehouse (one huge zone). Remember that computers in 2002 were not good at rendering large polycounts without lagging - I think the map had about 600-800 polys when you were up high in a corner and looking out across the warehouse. I eventually fixed most of the bugs in the map, and deleted most of the outside areas to get more flow into the gameplay, which did improve a bit but the map was still pretty big for a regular DM map.
At that point I reconfigured the layout for CTF, which the map seemed at the time to be better suited for.
The CTF version was built in April 2002 and was eventually released as a BETA at Unreal Playground in November 2002. I did get a some feedback which led me to modify the map layout slightly and added more deco and detail for a second version.
This final CTF version pushed the brush-count to over 2000 brushes, however, the improved CTF was never released since it still had less than optimal performance, (adding more brushes into the map was NOT really a good idea) and I wasn't happy with the results so it went on to the shelf for later.
I think the next time I loaded the map into UED was sometime during 2005. I had decided to check out Hourances Pitores and HourIndus texture sets to use in other projects, so I essentially re-textured the CTF-FNB-BoxesRuS-v2 map using the Hourances sets to play with them and at the same time I made a few layout optimizations before I retired the map again.
Fast forward to today - Earlier in 2010 I was spending a lot of time working on the very complexed DM/DOM Fallen Angel map and really needed a break from that one - so I switched gears and decided to try and finish the Boxes-R-uS map once and for all. Well now it's as finished as I'm willing to make it :)
UT Domination 3-CP
Medium Future Urban Industrial Pumping Station.
Built for the SuperChaz October 2009 Mapping Contest held at Unreal Playground.
Supports 6-10 players, uses normal weapons
FINAL - Released Nov 2009
More Info:
This 3-CP domination map is a nice speedy little tri-atrium layout with two levels of z-axis everywhere and three levels of z in a few spots. Designed for SuperChaz UP October 2009 Mapping Contest.
The theme is a mix of old and new FNB type stuff - basically an urban / tech / industrial theme. Around 30 new textures were fabricated for this map, mostly based on a few 2k4 tech packages.
Thanks to SuperChaz for holding the October 2009 Mapping contest, although (AS USUAL) I somehow missed the contest deadline, but it was fun to participate anyways.
Thanks to all the folks at Unreal Playground who looked in on the contest and to the other mappers who participated - It is nice to see some folks are still intesrested in good old UT99.
Thanks to Tom_CaT for helping play test this map and for providing some good suggestions.
Thanks to Epic for the UT2004 textures, I several as texture bases from various tech and mech/industrial packages.
Thanks to the usual bunch for several textures I've used in many of my maps, some of which are used again here... thanks guys!
For the music track, I've included RezZonatioN_OverDrive, a bit of classic-rocked-up Unreal type music I tracked back in 2006 for another project, which I might never finish, lol, so I've used it here :)
Various guitar samples from www.guitarsamples.co.uk and are used by permission (Thanks Chris :D All other samples used are from Epic MegaGames Unreal series games.
Many thanks to Alexander Brandon & Michiel van den Bos and StrayLight for great music that will live beyond the greatest FPS game ever made...

4-Control Point Domination in a Mechanized processing station. This is a DOM conversion of my "Barrel Of Fun" DM map from March 2004. The DOM was done right after the DM map was completed and was basically an experimental map. I think other projects grabbed my interest at the time and so this one went onto the shelf and became a forgotten map.
Well, I was going through my map folders the other day and I noticed the old Barrel Of Fun project zipfiles. A CTF and a DOM project besides the DM. Dunno why, but I decided to play the CTF and later played the the DOM map. Interestingly, the DOM gameplay didn't seem all that bad. .
It had 5 control points (which was too many, really) so I made a few adjustments and then began testing the hell out of it, after making a few CP position changes the gameplay and BOTS seemed to work it all out out and the matches were very close in score.
So I basicaly finished off the DOM map, adjusted player starts and fixed some bot bugs and mover lift bugs. I did not bother fixing the crazy jump-pads around the center because they are not really relevant anyways.
Other than that I made no other changes to the map. If there's any goofy sh$$t in there then it's still in there, lol! This one might be worth a look. Certainly not your typical DOM map! Well, that's what I think anyways :) If you do try it, I would suggest 5 vs 5 or 6 vs 6 masterful bots.

This is a 4-CP DOMINATION conversion of DM-FNB-OnceUponATime. I had a feeling long ago that this map would be ideal for DOM matches, and IMO, the map works much better as a DOM! Much faster-paced action and great for XLOC. With teams of four, the test matches were hectic and close in score, using masterful bots.
Note that the original DOM version of Once Upon A Time was a considerably modified and larger version of the original DM, and had suffered from low framerates.
I worked with that version for a while and used it as the basis for a larger CTF map that was to have a Monty Python and the Holy Grail theme (see CTF-FNB-HolyGrail ).
Unfortunately, neither the DOM or CTF made it very far into development due mainly to the framerate and BSP issues, and so those were both canned. The original DM BETA map was nowhere near as problematic and was eventually finished.
Thanks to the folks at Unreal Playground who tested the original DM map and provided feedback back in April 2003, and thanks to TechnoJF for the Monster no score script.
Music track is Lock from Unreal Tournament.

Map #5 for Blito3's Annual 300k Contest, Nov-Dec 2008. This map was actually a test map i made in 2001 to test the controlling of monster spawning. Later on, when i was a member of UnrealEd_Exe (aka LevelDesigner.com) this nice fellow known as Techno_JF (of UnrealSP fame) made me special Mutator script called "MonsterNoScore".
This script allowed you to spawn monsters in UT matches and kill them without increasing your frags. This was meant for me to use in some "monster" maps I was planning or working on at the time (example DM-Whacky World of Pain) but as per usual I never finished any of them, lol!
Fast-forward to today - After releasing "Newfies", I was digging around and found this old test map and decided to see if I could make a DOM out of it. Good news!
Everything just fit into 300K, monsters n' all, so here it is in all it's glorious fuggliness :)
It is an annoyingly fun DOM map, where never ending streams of Unreal monsters make keeping control rather difficult. Important Note: you need to Set bNoMonsters = false in your UnrealTounament.ini to be able to spawn the monsters, otherwise it's just a regular map :)
Many thanks to Blito3, for the FUN contest, also Tom_caT for testing, and a long-belated special thanks to Techno_JF for making the "MonsterNoScore" mutator for me years ago! After all this time I finally used it in a some released maps!
Music is BotMca9 from the game Unreal Tournament.

FINAL - Released Nov 2008
More Info:
Map #4 for Blito3's Annual 300k Contest, Nov-Dec 2008. Don't mess with Newfies! If you're a Canadian, you'll get it, otherwise you can be forgiven if you're thinking "WTF is a Newfie?" I wrote a little Newfie story included in the readme file which explains the map! Game play can get pretty spammy in this one, but there's lots of room to run around so it's quite fun if you're in the mood. I always have a laugh fighting inside the little Newfie houses :P
There are a few bot bugs in the map but... oh well. The big Newfie titans sometimes walk up on things (like the ramps and porches of the Newfie houses) and appear to hang in the air a bit... oh well. There's no drop off the edges of the island. I couldn't do that in 300k and keep the little bit of details that i had... oh well. Can't really think of anything else.
I tossed some of those Unreal books around the map. Some folks have fun with those (iykwim). The map took about 5 hours to think about and build. I tweaked it for a few more hours after that, so, maybe about 10 hours altogether to get it all into 300k :)
This map was actually built for Blito's 2006 300k contest but back then I gave up trying to reduce it below the 387k size it was stuck at. This time around I simply dropped the shadow detail to low for everything except the skybox, rebuilt and deleted the brushes (working with copies, obviously) and presto 295K.
Guess I should have stuck with it a bit longer back in 2006, lol! Important Note: You must set bNoMonsters = false in your UnrealTounament.ini to be able to spawn the Newfie titans, otherwise it's just a regular map :)
Many thanks to Blito3 for having these contests, and to the UP testers for their feedback in 2006, and to Tom_caT for his testing as well.

The map features distinctive areas interconnected using teleporter / zoomer tubes:
UPPER PLEXUS, QUEEN'S LAIR, QUEEN'S CHAMBERS (CP-1)
PROPULSION MATRIX (CP-2)
TACTICAL CONTROL (CP-3)
LOWER PLEXUS and CENTRAL PLEXUS
ST:Voyager fans will recognize some of these locations (Queens Lair, central plexus) are right out of the TV show. These areas were made from 3-d plans available on Janet's ST fan-site. Much of the rest of it I just made up, using ST:Voyager DVD's as inspiration for the themic elements, lighting and deco.
The basic ship deco is a life-sized facimilie of USS Voyager (in UT terms, 16 uu = 1 ft.) although you can't walk around on this one the way you can in TrekWooT. The original ship and cube were built for the Unreal Playground UT99 StarTrek DOM contest, held during Dec 2003-Jan 2004 over about two weeks of evenings (see DOM-ST-Assimilated).
As usual, this one was too ambitious for the timeframe and so was never completed in time for the deadline. Over the next few years though, the ship was refined in shape, and the surrounding Borg cube evolved to look the part.
During 2006, SabbathCat was facilitating extreme CTF WooT mapping, and held contest. CTF-FNB-TrekWOOT was the result of this activity. The cube was stripped away leaving just the ship in borg space and surrounded by two small tactical cubes (the bases).
During development of this map my old P4 bit the dust, and I had to finished the map using Tom_caT's P3 box. Once I was up and running on my new rig, DOM-FNB-Assimilated came together in good time. There are spots where you look out a window and you're hit with more than 1000 polys, and my new PC doesn't even blink.
Long story short, quite a bit of work involved in all the various versions of the maps, from 5 and 6-CP DOM version, which included Control points on the ship as well as in areas inside the cube, to some CTF versions. Just about everything you can do in UED2 as far as optimization goes has been done here.
Also experimented with many configurations of "transport" around the map. The reason I ended up using teleporters to connect sections is due to the failure of warpzones, movers, zoomtubes and movers to effectively and seemlessly "connect" the various areas, and still give a sense of the size of a borg ship. Sure, you can camp teleporters, but you won't win a Domination match by camping teleporters.
Thanks to the folks at Unreal Playground who provided feedback; Thanks to Tom_caT for all the testing on and off over the years :) Special thanks to Mychaeel for MeshMaker, a useful little tool for converting brushes to UT static meshes, and to the Steve Nabors (slickwilly) for the MultiSkyZone actor, very useful in creating the illusion of hugeness inside the Borg cube. UT DOMINATION
Medium layout supports 4-8 players - Normal weapons.
3-Control points - Future Tech Processing Station (on Mars).
FINAL - Released May 2006
More Info:
This was actually my first released Domination map. After submitting DM-FoT-SimpleX to the Frags-Of-Time mappack, I began playing with DOM conversion.
During development of the original DM map it occurred to me that the layout would be quite suitable for a 3 or 4 point UT Domination game.
So I made a few adjustments around placement of the Control points, such as removing some mover doors, adding defence points tweaking the path network, and posted both DOM maps at UP for feedback.
It turned out the 3-CP verison was a better for DOM gameplay so that was the one i finished off and released. It does have better performance than DM-FNB-SimpleX due to the fact it was based on DM-FoT-SimpleX.
Since there are significantly less DOM levels available in the UT world compared to DM and CTF, this one seemed to be appreciated by DOM players and was well received.
In fact, once in a while I play SimpleX, and it's usually the DOM version I choose because it's better for non-stop action. Thanks go to all the peeps at UP who helped with the BETA testing and gave feedback on the DOM maps.
