Nirgal is the younger half-brother of Iopater and Al-Jerah through their father Qinghis.
Since he was lacking in physical bravery, his mighty father was ever dismissive and contemptuous towards him. But he eventually got his revenge by plotting with his stronger brothers to kill their father (both were upset that Qinghis planned to take his own daughter Diove as one of his many wives).
Unwilling to face his own father in combat, he did his part by poisoning Qinghis' wife Ge and her court while making the pretense of honoring her with a visit. After this terrible deed he served as the eyes, ears and treacherous dagger for his older brothers, often playing them off one another for his own amusement and enrichment.
He was finally rewarded for his service after the fall of Mott with rule of the underworld, a role that well serves his nature.
Note that while is respected by mortals, Nirgal is very rarely worshiped: not many of the living love a death god, after all. This is not say that worshipers do not exist, but like their patron these sorts of people are best avoided.
