-------------------------------------------

The island of Lemuria is all the remains of the land of Moiragoth, before the current cycle this was the realm of the god Toluk the Disskald, an outsider who had bound himself to the mortal world with a magic talisman.

Aiming to forge an age of heroes, he bred an army of fearsome orcs (said to be elves whose song had been 'twisted' by discord) and goblins and drakes to terrorize the world under his banner.

But he was opposed by the sage Gondlir the Grave and his companions of man, pech, elf and dwarf, and together they managed to destroy Toluk's talisman and banish him from the world - perhaps forever.

With Toluk's power broken, the land of Moiragoth itself sunk beneath the waves, leaving only a tiny portion standing above sea level. This land became known as 'Lemuria', due to the preponderance of lemurs found within it's vast jungles.

Although no longer the threat that they once were, Toluk's orcs are still a dark terror to those that brave passage through the Sea of Nodos. Formed into war-bands bound together through blood, they spend as much time fighting themselves and their drake and goblin neighbors as they do one another. The mastery of iron evidenced by their ancestors is now lost to them, but with stone and wooden spears and clubs and fast rowing canoes known as 'wakka' they are able to fight and travel well enough to give pause to even the bravest and most foolhardy of their neighbors.

-------------------

Although exiled, Toluk is still the first and only god worshiped by the orcs and goblins that live in Lemuria. It is said that he watches over them with single baleful eye, judging each as to whether they are warriors worthy of his attention.

To this end the orcs and goblins of Lemuria have taken to tattooing themselves at every major milestone of life's journey- whether simply coming of age, or taking an enemy's head as a trophy, or perhaps seizing a worthy captive (usually female) as a prize. The only thing more fearsome than seeing an orc without tattoos seeking glory is seeing one heavily tattooed in honor of past triumphs- and past victims.

-------------------

Even without the orcs, goblins and drakes that rule it's shores Lemuria is not without it's share of terrors. It's jungles are filled with adorable lemurs, to be sure- but also massive blood sucking and carnivorous insects, aggressive apes, man-eating plants, and other creatures of the most lurid nightmare.

Still there are explorers who are willing to brave the risks: for within her jungles are said to be ruins filled with treasures and wonders known nowhere else in all the world. That, and bones; the bones of those who came before, a sad testimony to the perils of this forbidden and forsaken land.
