-----------------------
The land of Byth is the last refuge of the ancient Nemedian race, a near-human people that once dominated the eastern coast of Vistria.
Now a dying and dwindling breed they have left behind a mysterious and haunted land mostly empty of habitation, except for the massive and sprawling capital of Yr and a few manned trading posts and fortresses. The exception to this are the boggarts, creatures summoned from the Void to serve as servants and soldiers of the Nemedians. Whether or not these creatures are truly alive, however, is a question for the philosophers and outside the scope of this entry.
Other than this, however, the countryside is full of life in the form of vast fertile fields where the crops seem to grow themselves (aided no doubt by ancient magics), majestic plains and vast untended forests. Travelers to this land are urged to stay on the road and in the open; the forests of Byth are no place for mortal men to tread, and are ruled by the dead (both substantial and insubstantial) and the fey folk that have always called these places home.
---------------------------------------
As noted above, Byth is home to the great city of Yr: a vast and sprawling metropolis largely stolen from the sea on the easternmost point of the nation.
Yr is a legendarily rich, and legendarily decadent city. Freed from toil of all kind by their otherworldly servants, the Nemedians spend their days in pursuit of pleasures of all kinds: the reading of books, the enjoyment of rich and exotic foods, wines and other narcotics found throughout the world, sex, song, conversation, etc.
The Nemedians of Byth are always interested in anything new or novel, having long since lost the interest or capacity to produce such things themselves. It is said that a traveler bearing new and novel things, or with bold tales to tell, and told well, can always find a meal and a bed (and often a bed partner) in Yr.
