ETHICOMP 2020 updates
We received 120 submissions; review process has started (deadline: 30 November) (ETHICOMP 2018: 99 submissions)
Papers submitted to tracks that received insufficient submissions + that get accepted will move to the open track
Max. number of parallel tracks = 3. Programme will depend on number of accepted papers. A panel with 6 papers is also an option.
Logistics: information regarding hotels will follow, normally in December.
Registration will be ready in December.
Keynote speaker: Spanish professor, specialized in marketing, ethics, and technology / keynote panel 'A journey in computer ethics' (past, present, future): Simon, Don, Shalini, Katleen will participate, Kiyoshi and Mario will moderate
Code of Conduct - postponed until next meeting
Social welcoming event: Wilhelm and Mario will coordinate this
Mario will also organize a cultural activity the final day of the conference
ETHICOMP 2021
ETHICOMP 2021 will take place the final full week of June 2021 in Turku, Finland. Prices (registration, dinner incl.) will be higher than in Spain, probably about 425 euros. The conference and program committees might be all local (ETHICOMP has no official rules). Richard will inform INSEIT that date and location have been decided, so CEPE 2021 (which will also take place in Europe) can take this into consideration; a 'back to back' conference with CEPE might be possible; Kai has no objections to either a 'back to back' (preferred by SC) conference or even a joint conference and is happy to help the CEPE team.
Funding: Kai will also look for industry support.
The date and location of the 2021 conference will be announced at ETHICOMP 2020 (conference dinner); Kai will present this. The CfP will be distributed the week after the conference (before the summer leave), the same time schedule as ETHICOMP 2020 will be followed for the 2021 conference.
Question SHERPA concerning focus group on options on how to address ethical and human rights issues of AI - SHERPA can do the focus group(s) but not as a parallel session; preferably during lunch break or after the daily program.
Any other business - none raised
ACTION POINTS SC and conference committee:
Follow ETHICOMP on social media (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook) and encourage other people to do so as well
Please make a list of interesting magazines/journalists/bloggers/... (e.g. New Scientist), national and international, and target them for the 2020 conference (as soon as the basic program is known)
Input for the ETHICOMP website (what should be on it?) to Katleen
Ask students to create an ETHICOMP page on Wikipedia? Input welcome (to Katleen)
