Agenda / minutes
Minutes of the previous meeting - agreed
ETHICOMP 2020 updates
The SC and track chairs should send out the CfP again (see also action points)
Hotel information etc.: will be on the website within the next 2 months, Mario is looking for interesting offers
Mario will contact Gosia about the social media
Keynote speakers: the number of keynotes depends on the programme. A diversity of keynotes is preferred (in terms of age, gender, profile (academia/industry), ...). Bill suggests Zeynep Tufekci and Andrew suggests Rumman Chowdhury (see also action points). Mario suggests a keynote panel: 10 minutes presentation each, followed by an intensive debate
Deadline extension: the conference organizers will wait until the final week of October; in case of few paper submissions, the deadline will be extended. The online submission system (EasyChair) will not be closed before 3 November
Raising ETHICOMP's profile & visibility:
Logo - We have a logo, thank you Don and David! (on the website: please credit David Kramer)
Website - ethicomp.org transferred to https://www.unirioja.es/ but it should be transferred to the conference website (!): https://www.unirioja.es/ethicomp/2020/ There should be a 'standard rewrite rule'
App - Andrew has sent out a summary of interesting apps last June. The conference organizers of 2020 and 2021 should decide whether they want to use one or not
Code of Conduct - Andrew needs an update from Catherine. Postponed until the next meeting
ETHICOMP 2021
Kai kindly suggested to host the 2021 conference in Turku (summer 2021). He will provide a workplan + detailed proposal offer by our next meeting (mid-November). The 2021 conference will take place either end of June (midnight sun!) or late August-beginning of September. Kai and his team have experience with organizing international conferences.
2020 = 25th anniversary ETHICOMP
Some ideas were suggested to celebrate our 25th anniversary at the 2020 conference: launch logo + website, hold a panel on the history of computer ethics with a variety of people, honour Terry and Simon, ... (see also action points)
Any other business - none raised
ACTION POINTS SC and conference committee:
Dissemination of the CfP: please (re)distribute it widely (network, colleagues, research group, mailing lists, social media, LinkedIn, ...)!
30 October 2019: Abstract submission due
Send ideas for keynotes to Mario
Send ideas for 25th anniversary ETHICOMP (which will take place at the 2020 conference) to Katleen
Follow ETHICOMP on social media (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook) and encourage other people to do so as well
Please make a list of interesting magazines/journalists/bloggers/... (e.g. New Scientist), national and international, and target them for the 2020 conference (as soon as the basic program is known)
Input for the ETHICOMP website (what should be on it?) to Katleen
Ask students to create an ETHICOMP page on Wikipedia? Input welcome (to Katleen)
Next meeting - Week of November 11th, Katleen will create a Doodle.
