To start learning about the therapeutic use of self-compassion, I recommend that you read Dr. Kristen Neff's excellent overview: What is self-compassion? I also encourage you to complete her self-assessment questionnaire: Self-Compassion Test. Then, try some of her guided meditations and exercises.
