1Password Tips
Over the years this is what I learned.
After the password gets saved double check that the correct URL is setup. Example: when you go to a sign up page it will have the sign up URL and when you go to the site again 1Password may not fill in the password.
To save use the “Save in 1Password”
To get to a site - I open up the 1Password screen and do a search to find what I need to log into and select “Open & Fill”
When answering Security Question I make stuff up and store that in 1Password. That way if it asks, “what school did you attend?” I make something up that nobody will know. One more layer of security.
The application will auto-generate passwords based on a recipe that you can manage. I make the password as long as the web site can handle. Usually 20-40.
I store all my credit cards in the app so it will auto fill when I buy something and I don’t store the credit card in the merchant’s account.
I didn’t understand what the “Identifies” were used for until later - I now store my work, home, etc. to have available information to auto-populate web sites when it asks me for my address, etc. and I don’t store any of that in the browser any longer. Plus - it has birthdates, SSNs, passport information, etc.
To de-clutter I created an Archive vault and move old things there
I store WiFi/ router information in the app
I saved a lot of time when I learned that you just click on the item to copy the user name/ password if there is not an automated way to populate the website
Each of the entries is a record that you can add new fields to track anything you wanted for that. Examples of what I track
Laptop information
Software license codes
Security certificates
Encryption keys
Etc.
When you get used to things - you can also swap out the SMS texts to provide the Multi-factor authentication.
Not all websites support it, but look for “One-Time Password” in the app.
