May 12th the CU hash gathered for the third running of the Summertime Larrikin (aka, everyone's freaking out about finals or on vacation hash). Myself, Lazer Labia, Teacher's Pet, Second Cumming, Dog Face, Just Basia, What A Cunt, and Skidmark were at the start, along with Teacher's Pet's virgin uncle, Just something or other, while Free His Willy arrived late to the first on-in.
First Hares were Type A and Second Cumming, and we led a trail through campus, down the Morningside park hill, and into Harlem. After trying both Harlem Bowl and Lenox Lounge and finding them closed at 4pm on Saturday (this would become a recurring theme) we eventually settled on Corner Social. At Malcolm X and 127. Willy was hopping mad we told him to park "all the way" over on 130th and Amsterdam, but as he was too fatigued from jogging the six blocks over, he was unable to do anything about it.
The fun thing about a Larrikin in New York is randomly choosing a joint and the high odds of ending up in a snooty bar, even in Harlem. Nevertheless, despite some squicked out looks, and requests that we stand here, no wait, *there* we were pretty much unmolested.
Next to draw the short (and curly) straws were Teacher's Pet and Dogface, who took the pack down through Marcus Garvey park and into the Harlem Beer Garden. At this point several of the hashers had pressing engagements, and I took off early to find us an acceptable circle bar. This proved to be harder than it looked, as three bars in a row also seemed to have given up on that loss-leader that is Saturday evenings, including Haakon's Hall, which had posted hours of 3pm-? Sat. Pack eventually circled up in the back room of Amsterdam Cafe where a good deal was found on Saratoga lager, which I'd never heard of but thought was ok (I was alone in that opinion). Circle was short and sweet, with such a small group of dedicated dead-enders we managed to run this short trail without any major catastrophes.
On-on,
