In A World Full Of Bad News.
It is disheartening to see that bad news gets most prominence. It’s on the front pages of newspapers; it’s the headline news on TV channels; and it’s all over the social media, and so on. And bad news ruins our mood. In a world full of bad news, we at Xit-Koddi decided to share some good news in this issue, with our Bahrain Goan community.
Firstly, we rejoice with the Goan community around the globe, at the news that Goa has finally its first Goan Saint, an illustrious son of the soil, Blessed Joseph Vaz, with the approval of his canonization by Pope Francis.
The second good news is for the Bahrain-based Goans in particular, in the announcement by Jet Airways of the operation of daily, direct flights from Abu-Dhabi to Goa with Etihad Airways providing convenient connections for passengers from Bahrain. These flights will begin from November 15, and will be a good option for Goans traveling to Goa during the exposition of the body of St. Francis Xavier and the festive season.
It is our desire to share useful information with our readers always and we hope to find good stories to share in future.

Mog Khuim Chuklo enthrals audience: The reason, many directors feature child artistes in Konkani Tiatrs, is to bring an emotional influence on the audience. This was very much in evidence in the one-act play Mog Khuim Chuklo directed by Jr. Luis Anthony. The child artiste Aaron D'Costa brought tears to the eyes of many in the audience, with his emotional acting in this play, held as part of the cultural program of the Harvest Festival of the Konkani Community of Sacred Heart Church, Manama. Agnelo D'Costa (as an angry husband), Meena (as the blind faithful wife), Peter (the priest) and Avon Travon Silva (with his comedy appeals) and Norita Alphonso (the secretary in love) were simply as good as professional actors on stage and made the play a great success. A packed house at the Our Lady of Arabia Auditorium watched the play on September 6 and 12, during the Bandra Fair festivities. Our congratulations to Jr. Luis Anthony and his team.
Edward Sequeira (Bahrain): The Independence Day Special of the Xit-Koddi issue of August inspired me so much, that I made it a point to visit with my family ‘The Little Angels Orphanage’ in Colva Goa. The orphanage run by a nun, takes care of about 80 orphans. Our children must see and know how many children live without their parents, and help them realize how grateful to God they should be and teach them to be generous and charitable to causes like this.

OBITUARIES
Xit-Koddi Team deeply mourns the death of following resident/ex-residents of Bahrain and convey our deepest condolences to their families.
Swibert Fernandes (Bahrain): Thanks to Xit-Koddi and the Bahrain Goans Facebook page for the great publicity of theBandra Fair. The event was excellent and we all had a great time. The group-dancing competition and the fashion show was of high quality. Wishing the organisers and the YGC members all the very best in future.
First Goan Saint: Goans around the globe have rejoiced at the news that Pope Francis has approved the canonization of Blessed Joseph Vaz, apostle of Canara and Sri Lanka and patron of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman. Five centuries since the official arrival of the Roman Catholic faith, Goa will finally get the honour of having its illustrious son of the soil, Blessed Joseph Vaz, declared the first Goan saint of the universal Catholic church. With the approval of canonisation by Pope Francis, Blessed Joseph Vaz became the third Indian saint after Saint Gonsalo Garcia (Vasai-Mumbai) and Saint Alphonsa Muttathupadathu (Kerala).

was employed at MENAS. My wife Philu, was a Hindi teacher with Sacred Heart School Bahrain. My two sons Caesar and Shannon are doctors now settled in Australia. My youngest son Dexter has done his PG in Bio-Med. Bahrain has been like a second home to us. It is one of the most beautiful and pleasant places to live in, especially for us Indians. No pollution, no corruption and the sucegad way of life as in Goa, and with the Young Goans Club around, we never felt we were out of Goa. The carnival, the Goenchim Festam, the May Queen Dance, the picnics and in particular the Football and Hockey tournaments, to mention a few of the events, have made us Goans proud of our culture. But there have also been times of gloom and discomfort, but life is like that. In general, I can say Bahrain is a wonderful place and each one of us must work with dedication and keep the Bahrain flag flying, while keeping our identity with pride.
Goan Priest At Sacred Heart Church:
Renato D’Costa.
Mary D’Souza (Sequeira), who traces her roots to Aldona was recently honored with the ‘ Dhyan Chand Award’, India’s highest award for lifetime achievement in the field of sports. She had taken part in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics - the first time India had sent women athletes to the Olympics. A half-hour documentary on Mary, available on YouTube, led us to a Little Goan Star of Bahrain - Renato D’Costa.
This documentary is the work of Renato D’Costa, who completed his schooling in Bahrain at the Asian and New Indian Schools. Talking to Xit-Koddi from Goa, he said that he was inspired by the work of Christopher Nolan and Stephen Spielberg, and developed his idea in filmmaking.
Fr. Gaspar Fernandes has arrived in Bahrain as the new Assistant Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church, Manama. He will also lead the Konkani Community as their Spiritual Director. Fr. Gaspar had been serving in the parish of Kuwait since 2009. Fr. Gaspar (from Aldona, Goa) was at Monte de Guirim, before his posting to Doha, Qatar, where he served the Lord for 3 years prior his posting to Kuwait. Fr. Gaspar is not totally new to Bahrain. A few years back, he was here to preach during the Novenas of St. Francis Xavier. On behalf of our community, we welcome and wish Fr. Gaspar a fruitful and blessed ministry in our parish.

With passion in this line, Renato continued his studies at St. Xaviers, Mapusa, with a B.A in Mass Communications and Videography. This is where he got an opportunity to translate his ideas into reality, and made short films as part of his studies. He was fortunate to get a chance to do his internship with Prudent Media, one of the many TV channels in Goa. The documentary on Mary D’Souza, for which we are providing a link to our readers, is the most successful project of Renato, with the help of his team members Andrew D'Souza, Karen Fernandes and Malavika Babu. ‘Now, I have a story and I want to shoot in Bahrain, Inshallah’, Renato told Xit-Koddi during our interaction with him.
Renato is the son of die-hard footballer Vincent D’Costa and Philomena, hailing from Tivim, Goa. Xit-Koddi wishes Renato a successful career in filmmaking.
Bin Isa Al Khalifa, has said he is willing to help 200 Christian families forced out from their homes in Mosul, Iraq. The monarch was not only willing to assist the families but also receive them in Bahrain. This shows his generosity towards Christians ”. Bishop Camillo Ballin, Vicar Apostolic of Northern Arabia, said this in a recent interview with Vatican Radio according to reports published in Zenit - the international news agency of the Vatican.

His Inspirational Quotes
"Gossip can also kill, because it kills the reputation of the person! It is so terrible to gossip! At first it may seem like a nice thing, even amusing, like enjoying a candy. But in the end, it fills the heart with bitterness, and even poisons us."

After the resounding success of the MAY QUEEN Pageant 2014, Young Goans Club (YGC) added yet another feather in its cap by organizing the Bandra Fair 2014.
“This nostalgic event, filled with much fun-fare and excitement, has been a symbol of the club’s goals and initiative to bring cultural events to all communities in Bahrain, thereby uniting them in a spirit of brotherhood”, said Francis Correia, President of the YGC. The event was held at the Baan Saeng Thai Restaurant in Adliya on September 12.People thronged the venue as early as 1 o’clock in the afternoon, going round the various food and games stalls. Traditional Goan food delicacies and Bandra Fair sweets had been specially flown in. The men had an entertaining day with savory dishes from the food stalls complementing their favorite drinks at the bar. The little children had a field day at the toys’ stall and flooded the hall with colorful bubbles from laser guns. The photography stall by Pearl Rodrigues, creating festive images of guests, was crowded throughout the day. Ringing the gifts was the major attraction among the games’ stall.
DJ Ryan Britto, with many credits to his name from Goa, was on his international debut and did justice to all the hype about his skill and talents that preceded in the social media. In the latter part of the evening the crowd would not leave the dance floor, chanting ‘More, More’, when breaks were called for stage programs. DJ Ryan played fascinating remixes that kept the crowd rocking on the dance floor. Among the stage programs, seven groups participated in the Dance competition, and the top two groups had to repeat their performances with judges being unable to distinguish the winner from the exceptional presentations. Eventually Unique Crew emerged winners with Mad Crew in second place. The duo of Munglurkar Goenkar was in third place. A blend of Western and Indian ethnic style fashion show choreographed by Ms.
Shamima Noorani, had 12 models walking up the ramp in 2 sequences with their exquisite outfits and designer wear showcased. The parade drew loud applause from the audience in appreciation of the beautiful presentation as the curtain came down on the sequences. The YGC President felicitated Ms. Noorani for her long association and contribution to the club and above all, for encouraging the youngsters to see the ‘fashion industry’ from a different perspective.A musical tribute to ALFRED ROSE added Goan spice to the event. This was arranged by John Vincent Barretto with Reginald De Curtorim, Danby D’Costa and Jr. Luis Anthony joining him to sing memorable songs of Alfred Rose to Karaoke-type original music from meragana.com. The Konkani play Mog Khuim Chuklo that had thrilled the audience at the harvest festival, a week before, suffered due to failure of the sound system.
The Bandra Fair ended with the search for the Bandra King and Queen from the crowd. The individuals who truly identified themselves with the traditional fun and frolic at the fair all through the day were chosen for the title. Naureen Daniel, a Goan visitor from Pakistan was crowned Bandra Queen while Gerald Abranches was crowned Bandra King.
Eid Time Football: An exciting football fiesta is on the cards during the Eid holidays. Cirilo Barreto Felicitated: The youngsters of the Bahrain Goans (BG) football community have over the years, benefitted whenever senior division players of Goa have come to Bahrain for employment. They get to learn from them the finer points of the game. One such player who has shared his experience and discipline with BG footballers for the last 14 year, is Cirilo Barreto.
.....that Neville D'Souza scored a sensational hat-trick of goals at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics while playing for India against Australia - the only hat-trick scored by any Indian in Olympic football and also, the first one by an Asian footballer?
Cirilo arrived in Bahrain in 2000 and since then has been on the football scene. The BG recently felicitated this player for his longtime contribution to football(Felix Rodrigues of BG is seen here presenting the memento to him). He started his senior division football career in Goa as captain of the now defunct VLM, and was picked up by Vasco Club soon after. He played for the formidable Churchill Brothers for two years before taking up employment in Bahrain with African and Eastern.
Cirilo has represented Goa in the under-19 and under-21 football championships at the national level. He has also played for Goa in the Santosh Trophy thrice, and was a member of the team that finished runners-up in 1998-99. Cirilo is a regular player in BG Football and hails from Cansaulim, the village in South Goa well known for its celebration of the Three Kings feast.
