Feast of St. Francis Xavier: The feast of St. Francis Xavier will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church, Manama, on December 3. Fr. Nicolau Rodrigues from Goa, who is in Bahrain conducting the 9 day Novena, will lead the Concelebrated Mass in Konkani at 7 p.m.
Death Anniversary of Pd. Agnel: The Goans in Bahrain marked the 88th Death Anniversary of Venerable Padr Agnel during the Konkani Mass on November 22 at Sacred Heart Church, Manama. Large number of devotees attended the thanksgiving mass for favors received through his intercession and to pray for his canonization. Refreshments were served at the end of the Eucharistic Celebrations.
Lavy Pinto: Few Goans have made Goa so proud in the arena of athletics as Lavy Pinto whose name was splashed on the front pages of the media after his victory in the first Asian Games in the 100 and 200-meter races in 1951. Hailed as “the fastest man in Asia” Lavy became the cynosure of the Goan community worldwide and remained an icon for the youth. Lavy continued to reign as the national sprint champion for several years and was selected to be India’s representative in the 100 and 200 meter races at the Helsinki Olympics, but was able to reach only the fourth place level at those games.
He was a familiar figure in Air India where he worked as a purser after studying at St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai. He finally left for the US where he has settled down with his children.
Today, Lavy remains largely forgotten in India, but in his time he set the athletics firmament ablaze like a shooting star.

Musical Show Enthralls Crowd: The 'Bahrainche Goykar 2' Konkani Musical Show by Comedian Jr. Luis and Claude Farrier, organized by Young Goans Club (YGC) and held at Baan Saeng Thai Restaruant Auditorium in Adliya on November 5, was a hailed as one of the best
Konkani shows on the island for a long time. The success of the show can be attributed to the directors who assembled on the stage a select group of talented Konkani singers, actors and musicians, not only from Bahrain but from Dubai, Kuwait, Mumbai and Goa. The visiting artistes like the Kuwait Trio (Cajetan-Michael-Mario), Dubai Trio (Edwin-Anthony-Manuxin) and Kenny Zuzarte rocked the audience with captivating songs on recent topics. Francis De Tuem lived up to the expectations of tiatr lovers, refusing to mince words, in highlighting the weaknesses of the politicians in Goa. The Director Comedian, Jr. Luis, tickled the funny side of the audience with his comedy skits. The Bahrain-based singers did justice to their inclusion in the show with some scintillating songs. Shahu from Kuwait on the keyboard, made a good impact on the musical score to the singers. Among others present for the show were Tibush Rebello - the Film Producer from Kuwait; Tony Gonsalves, social worker from London; and Domnic Fernandes - President Kuwait Konknni Mogi, who also sang two good solos in the show. Theotonio Fernandes of Prudent Media was also present and snippets of the show are likely to be telecast on the channel in the near future. We join the audience in congratulating the directors, Jr. Luis and Claude and organizers YGC, for a well-presented show. Meanwhile Edwin D'Costa (Dubai Trio) hailed as the master composer of Konkani songs, released his 84th music album 'Mother Theresa-ak Okman' during the show.
